I feel cheap but I beat her with the mimic ash. I was owning her first phase and summoned it during the second. Tried turning the game off but it saved the kill. I hate feeling like I truly didn’t beat her :(

I never understand that. It's literally in the game for you to use. There's nothing cheap or cheating about it. I don't use summons all the time, but I've used them a good bit in the DLC because it's brutal. I respecced tonight and went and beat Messmer, Metyr, and Midra pretty quick with the Fingerprint Shield and Blood Naganita. Honestly, I hate the build, but it works for the bosses.

So I bit the bullet. Being able to disable blood pushed me over the edge to jump in.

With kids and being in my 30s I just don’t care for that anymore.

With that said. Omfg this game is amazing. I spent my first 2 hours scared as shite sneaking around. Getting courage to battle anything.

Then from hours 3-4 I basically just grinded some horseback shite heads and returned to the same site of grace.

I did that until about level 25. I then decided to branch out and explore. I’m definitely more powerful than most encounters in my current areas.

The underground area with the spirit guardians was freaking amazing. I’m just mind blown at how many rabbit holes I’ve gone down. I’m around level 32 now and this game is making me feel the same way oblivion did back when I was in middle school.

I do wish there were more towns with non hostile NPCs for a little bit of depth but still overall I’m hooked and only 8 hours in.

To follow up on my progress. I'm level 67 now. And I've got to say this game is flat out amazing. To follow up on the blood disabling. It still shows up in cut scenes like when dudeman ripped the dragon head off. Or when you kill one of the pot bastards. Which is fine.

I just don't care for it as I mow down thousands of enemies time after time. It almost looks comical when I do see it now though. I'm glad they have the option at least.

But regardless of all that shite. I'm about 30 hours in and only unlocked 11/42 PlayStation trophies.

Eventually I will join you guys in the DLC but the base game is amazing for me and I just wanted to say for anyone on the fence about it. Just dive in. I was so afraid of not liking the game because of difficulty or a dreary landscape or gore. But none of those concerns were true.

It's freaking amazing. You can tell all the little nooks and crannies as you go deeper down exploring rabbit holes were intentionally designed by someone who gives a shite and not some soulless procedurally generated BS.

You start looking all around caves and dungeons for some sneaky arse developer putting shite in places. You almost start to get a sense for their style after a while and can just feel the right places to look around.

This in particular is what really makes FromSoft games special

It also causes a sense of righteous indignation when you find a “spot” that should clearly reward you for your clever exploration, but there’s nothing there. On the one hand, kudos to them for it being so rare. On the other hand, damn does it irrationally disappoint me when it happens

Right when you first get there and I fought the skeletons at first but then try to run through and the cave is super dark I need a torch but dude or whatever in the tunnel or dark area is pretty strong. I used a larval and respec and haven't tried again. I have more vigor now. I want to get to that bonfire (meant grace) where you shoot the arrow off the side for those 11,000 runes each time. if that still works.

Did you buy a lantern? The lantern will brighten things up and it just clips to your belt so you don't have to use a hand to hold anything when you need a light source.

It definitely works. 13,000 with the golden scarab talisman.

I've beaten 9 of the major bosses. Just have Radahn left. Been playing around with different builds and the lightning perfume build is straight bonkers right now. I expect it will get a nerf soon. I've wiped out all the bosses and wicker men things with that.

The other bosses I've stuck with Blasphemous blade and with talisman of dread, it slaps even harder even tho it was nerfed.

So far, the two bosses that have given me the most trouble are the Scadutree Avatar and Commander Gaius. Best both of them tonight but it was a real challenge for me. Imagine my surprise when some dude charges at me full speed ahead on the boar that we likely all fisted up the arse at some point in Dark Souls 1

Just beat the DLC on base difficulty (no NG+). The final boss for me was one of the hardest in all of the modern Fromsoft games. Pretty neck and neck with Melania in terms of most attempts and most time spent fighting. 6-8ish hour range. Before these Elden ring bosses, the most was like 3-4 hours on bosses in other games like Demon of Hatred, Darkeater Midir, and Laurence.

On and the true Dragon fight in the DLC was another that took awhile. Man, that was a great fight.

If the one I’m struggling with is the “true dragon fight”, then I haven’t figured it out yet. He’s absolutely wiping his arse with me and it’s not taking long either. I usually don’t struggle with the dragons in this game if I’m appropriately leveled so I just need to figure it out and get it done

Yep, by true dragon I meant the one that feels like a real boss fight like Placidusax and not the simple drakes out in the field.

I could see people arguing that he is the hardest boss in the DLC. I feel like I had a good RNG fight that allowed me to kill him after just a couple hours but it could have gone way longer.

If you're on Reddit, you can post on r/BeyondTheFog. Should be pretty easy to find someone who can join your game and help out on that sub.
