The first phase of the witch fight is a gimmick fight. Look for the member of the mob with a yellow aura and hit them. After two of three of those, the witch will lose her protective bubble and fall to the floor for a punish phase.
Rinse and repeat.
The second phase is more of a traditional fight but she spams high level magic and calls up summons. I recommend bringing a friend and trying for as many stun locks as possible.

Yeah I got all that. I just struggled because I was trying to use spells when she fell down to the ground and there are so many enemies around here that it's hard to lock on.
Im gonna switch to melee for the first phase when I get home. It's crazy how much loot are in these castles. I thought I got everything, but missed a ton and I'm the type that has to get everything.

Well I finally had my first rage quit moment of this game. I was fighting the witch at the raya lucaria academy. I had finally beat her after a long fight only to find out there is a second phase.
I'll try it tomorrow and will prob have better luck. It's almost impossible to get a lock on her when she drops in the first phase because of all her goons. I think I will have better luck going melee first phase and trying to save my spells for second phase.
Now I gotta try and wind down and get to sleep.
Haha yeah, FromSoft games definitely force you to take a step away from the game to collect yourself. I usually stop playing when I get overly frustrated.
I am right before you though. I just got owned in the room in Raya Lucaria with the magic users that snipe you and that damn spinning pot. That room was a death sentence. I have no idea how anyone could do a no hit run in this game, although I heard that you don't need to beat all the Elden Lords to complete the game.

Pretty sure the first form has very high magic defense anyway when laying on the ground so melee is the way to go.

Just started an ASTRO last night. Wish me luck

I’m at level 64, I’ve got strength, vigor and endurance out the wazoo, I’ve got all these big arse weapons and I still die all the damn time. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. It’s not even fun at this point
1. Are you two-handing your weapon or using a shield to Guard Counter?
2. Which big arse weapons are you using? Do they have any sweeping attacks or are they just poking/slamming in a straight line?
3. What's your poise?
4. Are you using jumping R2s at all?
5. Have you played a strength build in any other Souls games?

What am I seeing on videos where someone had a weapon coated in a red flame? He was a Samurai if that matters.
Ashes of War: Blood Slash.
From what I hear, it's pretty OP.

I have that equipped on my Uchigatana but it only shows blood on the special attack. They seem to have an effect on their weapon that I do not have. Maybe flame sword or something, but it was glowing/burning red not the blood from the blood slash special move.

Goootcha.
Not sure, then.

This game is incredible. 15 hours in and loving every moment so far.

I think it's grease or whatever you can apply to your armaments.

Got a wild impulse today and bought this for my PS5. It's my first Souls like game, but it just looked to beautiful and interesting to pass up, plus I've been dying for something to play on my PS5.
I know I'm in for a lot of punishment, but still looking forward to it.

Is this game any good? I see some people playing it but I don’t know. Seems like lots of horsing around, bosses but pretty basic interaction with characters and I haven’t seen a ton of cutscenes yet
Debating on whether to pick it up or Ghosts of Tsushima possibly while I wait for Ragnarok

It’s a gameplay focused precision action RPG. Not much overflowing exposition or cutscenes. If you’re wanting a grand cinematic experience, Ghost or something similar would serve you better. If you want something that’s very challenging and more free form, give ER a shot

Yup. Came back and beat her first try when I got on today. I went and got the two pieces for the medallion and there is a real nice talisman in fort faroth.
I think it gives +5 vigor, stamina, Dex, and strength. I'll probably use that for the rest of the game. There is also a good intelligence talisman hidden in Academy of Ray Lucaria. It's called Graven School Talisman. It raises the potency of sorceries.
I'm probably gonna get started on the Renna the Witch questine tomorrow, but i heard you have to beat Radahn first. That dude looks terrifying.

it's all relative. I won't be using them for my first playthrough, but like we discussed earlier, there are encounters that seem designed around using them. nobody gonna roast you for sending the dogs or a jellyfish out

The hell with the dogs....I send pumpkinhead out every boss fight.
