I am trying to figure out George RR Martin's contribution to the game. Nothing sticks out to me at all - while I adore the game so far the story is about as bog standard Dark Souls as you can get
world used to be great,
but now its not,
you are an undead-by-any-other-name,
kill these jerks and resolve the macguffin
make the land great again
if you told me this game was completely done by the same writing team as dark souls 3 I wouldn't even question it.

Anyone tried the General Radahn fight yet. I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow. I started ranni quest and I after I go meet everyone, I'm gonna head that way. I've heard it's brutal.

I played a couple hours yesterday and had a great time just exploring. I did enough research to know that a lot of people followed the quest straight to Margit (sp?) and got burnt out, so instead I just went exploring for power ups. I killed Pumpkinhead and the Underworld dog, and then finally got to the campsite where you get your horse and bell
Probably should have gone there first. I started thinking I would go tanky because I'm not super great at timed dodges, but instead I'm going to try out Fextralife's Berserker build. LINK

I haven't read his books or watched GoT, so I am not sure how his style is specifically. But from playing virtually every FromSoft game, this has Miyazaki written all over it.

I love my prisoner build. It's a mix of intelligence and dex, so I'm able to get in and scrap, as well as shoot spells from distance.

Is this Leonine Misbegotten guy supposed to be relatively easy? I'm around level 34 and just exploring before I go back to Godrick.

I’m not sure how far you are in, but the uchi can be found almost immediately. No reason to reroll unless you went really far into strength. The uchi has D scaling in both STR and DEX. Put on the bleed ashes of war and have fun.
Crisis averted. I decided to pump some points into faith last night and try two handing the Golden Halberd....I've got it up to +4 now and it's absolutely feasting on fools.

I hit him at level 40 and it was a relative cake-walk.

I did radahn last night.
You can summon in five npcs to run distraction if you are so inclined. You also need to be adept at dodging his high velocity arrows.
I hung back and peppered him with mid to high tier magic while my gank squad worked him over. Not the most honorable fight, but I had gotten thoroughly sick of his shite and called in as many able bodies as I could.

I have been having fun in the Southern part of the map.. almost level 34 and haven't gone back to Godrick. Will fight Leonine Misbegotten first then go destroy Godrick - hoping to get my Uchigatana to +5 before that fight, but having trouble finding more smithing stones. I have already plundered Limgrave Tunnels (I don't think they come back after some period of time??)

Everything that I read leading up to the release was that George R.R. Martin was writing some of the lore. I believe I read that Miyazaki took everything Martin wrote and just made it extremely more dark. George R.R. Martin praised the team and said to direct the praise all to Miyazaki and his team.
Makes me wonder if Miyazaki just wanted to meet the guy and kinda get some bones to a story.
By the way, I haven't been engulfed in a game like this in a long time...maybe Witcher 3? Incredible!

I agree this is the best game I've played in a long long time. I can't rdm every being this hooked on a game. For the past week it's been go to work and then play elden ring until bedtime. I'm close to 50 hours and have just gotten past Renalla, so I'm sure I'll easily go over 100 hrs this playthrough.

People in the comments on that video talking about dual wielding the Zwei and Greatsword...good lord

That's actually been my experience with the overwhelming majority of fights to this point
Par for the course, most bosses are easy/medium difficulty at worst, but there will be a few oddballs that are actually hard. It was the same way in the other souls games.
I've only played Demons Souls remake and Dark Souls 1 Remastered, and this was my general experience as well. Seemed like the bosses were usually easier than getting through the areas to get to the bosses. With a few exceptions of course.

I'm getting my arse handed to me ha, and then I got transported to Cadid or where ever, so I'm trying to find my way back.

The typical games “journalist” bitching about “accessibility” in games every time FromSoft releases something has me laughing this morn.

I got bottlenecked on smithing stone [3] for a while, but I finally got some and I had so many later stones that I quickly leveled the twinblade I’ve been using all the way to +20. Thing fricking slaps. I have high intelligence and I set it to scale on that stat.
I have a few other things in my arsenal, but I stick with the twinblade mostly.

I started prisoner and love it. I skewed heavy on INT to use spells and kept dex medium level.
I just stumbled across a INT/DEX Katana that scales with INT and has a SICK weapon arc (magic sheath and you can hit with heavy or regular attack) and it's made me happy I pumped INT, it's an amazing weapon, I'll go out on a limb to say the best INT weapon out there right now, not only does it have split magic/physical damage, a sick weapon art, it also causes bleed at 50 pts. Pretty sick weapon and was just a drop from a mini boss.

I'm Prisoner as well.. think I am going to start pumping more into INT as well. I'm level 33 right now with 21 VIG, 16 Mind, 16 END, 18 DEX, 16 INT right now IIRC.

Wait, weapons go to +20 in this game? I had no idea
