We have to find out which Youtubers hate the game, so we know which posters will have to love it.

Full reviews dropped today. Good to ok, but nothing great.
Kinda disappointing.
People said the Metroid style gameplay is good when it's happening but there's also lots of non Metroid style gameplay and shocker, those parts all are weak. The "open world" desert is as awful as everyone feared too
Seems like the consensus is they shoulda just stuck to the script because the innovations are not good.

It's sitting at 81 on metacritic which is better than "good to ok." I'm pretty sure you just wanted to hate the game no matters what.
it sounds they tried some new things, some things worked, some things didn't. it sounds like when it's Metroid, it's Metroid, and that it is a fun experience.
Here you go:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the game I wanted it to be, but I can’t say the same for anyone else. It’s a series that has been on hiatus for so long that fans have likely built up impossible expectations inside their heads that are never going to be met,

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond risks missteps in its attempt to modernise a cherished formula, but for the most part it all coalesces into an entry more than worthy of the series. Even the most vocal diehard fans should be pleased by the fundamentals, and for those willing to accept them, the new wrinkles iron out nicely.

Despite a few tweaks and new features – motion controls, psychic powers, a nonlinear hub world, and the occasional side character – this is Metroid Prime through and through. It’s without a doubt the closest the series has ever felt to the original Metroid Prime, in terms of tone, gameplay, and quality.
it's getting great reviews for more of an old school vibe that most gamers are really in to, which is fine. i get that.

Damn son, that’s a pretty rough take based on what are otherwise pretty strong reviews. Just play the game and see if you like it. Were you the one all worried about the NPC’s taking over? The reviews clearly state they are annoying but they are very limited to tutorials and a few encounters.
Eat a snickers. Play Metroid. Relax.

I don’t, but some people do. It’s all optional and not a required play style in the game, so what’s the concern?

Nintendo fanboys can't handle it when you critique their games in any way.
When I complained about the weapon durability system in the new Zelda games, I got a lot of "why are you so precious about your sticks?"

i'd love to meet the guy who thought this was a good idea and beat him with bats that slowly degrade over time and then start over again with a new one

Motion contros on Prime are optional from what I understand. Weapon durability wasn’t an option with Zelda.

No lie, it prevents me from playing those games. They added the infuse system, or whatever it's called in Tears, and it didn't do much to abate my frustration with the weapon management that game forces you to do. I want to love those games so badly and that just kills for me every time I try it again.

That's fine then and doesn't immediately kill any chance of me getting the game like forced motion controls do.

It was never a perfect system, however, the point was it wanted you to experiment with all of the different weapons all of the time, and have to "scrounge" and do it in battle.
Most games, you pick a weapon and you stick with it forever - but they obviously didn't want you to do that unless you just went and hunted for that type of weapon for awhile.
I don't want that to be "the way weapons are done in games," however for Breath of the Wild it worked, it made me experiment often, and I liked that.
It seems like you wanted "your" version of Zelda with old standards. At least they tried something new. I LIKED having to scramble for weapons if I had not really done that for awhile. I LIKED being a stuck with a stick on a few occasions or having to run back to a previous encounter to grab the hammer I didn't pick up and be forced to use a non-standard weapon for me. Were there times it was a little tedious, sure. But wandering around with the Mastersword for most of the game would not have felt the same, and I would have never tried spears - which I really did enjoy using.
Could they have done it better, sure, but honestly, having those sorts of moments was part of the experience. Kind of like forced perspective in early Resident Evil games. Not ideal, but it adds to the world.

Here's the thing. Maybe they are around what, 10-15% of the game. They absolutely ruin the mood of the game so freaking hard it can't be hand waved away. They make the entire experience feel goofy and stupid to me.
And the gigantic empty boring arse dessert everyone knew was gonna be terrible? Why the hell is this in the game? Who wanted this? It's not fun or interesting, I haven't heard a single person have anything positive to say about it. Why is it in the game?
Even t good reviews say the game is more linear and easy than past Prime games too.
In a vacuum it's probably a fine game, I'm just being extra harsh because I'm comparing it to what it easily should have been.
They could have just copy/pasted the Metroid Prime 1 formula into a new game and new world, with a few minor new mechanics and it woulda been sitting at 92 or something on metacritic right now.
Everything bad with the game is inexcusably bad imo.

Eh, you would have said, "Why did they just copy and paste Metroid Prime into a new engine? Why didn't they do anything new? Why didn't they do x, y or z?"
Prime 4 isn't obviously as good as Prime, but the amount of games that are that good is an EXTREMELY small list. Like maybe 20 games. This could very well be a small misfire, and you know, at least they tried something new.
It's like a demanding of perfection, it's a bit unfair. Not every Halo was as good as Halo 2. Not everyone Final Fantasy is as good as 7 (which isn't the best anyway, but I'll let the public opinion reign here). Super Mario Odyssey was not as good as Galaxy. Street Fighter Ultra 4 was great, 5 sucked, and 6 is back to being good.
I feel you have some really unfair expectations on this one series. I mean, I sort of get it, but man.

We’ve all been playing games for decades. I have a hard time jumping to such hard conclusions before playing a game. I might not finish every game I start, but for those I’m interested in I’d rather give them a chance before running with a narrative. Go out and experience for yourself what the designers want to provide with their gameplay, sound, story, etc.
And to repeat the reviews are very good for this game. Maybe they missed the mark in some areas. Maybe it’s still a great Metroid experience despite that. Only way to know is to play it.

If a brand new Metroid game is coming out every two or three years and they were doing the exact same thing every time then more people would be in the mood for something different.
You're going to release one 3D Metroid game in 20 years it shouldnt be barely the same genre.

I mean, has this been confirmed? Literally review comments above say thus is both in the realm of Prime and a continuation of what they were doing in Echoes and Corruption?

Every review I read says it’s an excellent Metroid game in the style of Metroid Prime. The desert is mentioned as empty but only a small portion of the game.
