So what do we miss out on by not being able to play the first one?

Definitely a bunch of side missions.
You can jump around space, from galaxy to galaxy, doing random shite. Saving the universe, one planet at a time
similar to skyrim in that, you replace arrows with guns, magic with biotic spells, sneaky thief skills with tech skills, dragons with evil space creatures, horses with space ships
Gotta take cover, aim for the head, switch weapons/abilities/squad members based on the enemy's abilities. its a great mix of shooter and rpg

A pretty long and involved backstory on how the galaxy came to be under attack.

Also, shite ton of difference races, I imagine you have to build loyalty and trust with them to get them to fight for you during the war.
Basically if you enjoyed skyrim, and like 3rd person shooters, ud love the mass effect series.
There is a coop mode, as well

That's correct. You have to do the side missions to get different races and individuals to join you. Side missions are pretty detailed story line wise.

I think this is the best mass effect by far. The story is more epic. Since I play as a soldier there are wayyyy more rpg elements in this one compared to 2. I already have some badass weapons.

Have you guys had issues with the weight ratio for weapons yet? Isn't there some system where power recharge is slower if you have more powerful weapons?

The heavier your weapons the slower your recharge. It shows you web equipping weapons I only have the mantis rifle so far maybe that's why. I don't have the adrenaline rush "perk" are you a soldier?

Yeah my claymore shotty makes my powers take FOREVER to recharge, but I never use them anyway besides AR.
