With how the car system works there is no point in dropping big bucks onto one right now. 90% of the missions require you to use the default car or another ride, so your vehicle gets left behind to maybe get impounded but also maybe disappear.
This is a small complaint I have with the game. Nearly every mission (so far) requires you to ditch the car you were driving when you started the mission.
It feels even more pointless when you add in the fact that my cars repeatedly disappear from my garage (I know they might be in the impound but why would they be? I left them in my garage.)
The only 3 cars I've upgraded are each character's signature vehicle (Franklin's Charger, Michael's luxury sedan, and Trevor's truck) because those are the only vehicles I can count on with any regularity being at each character's main safe house.

The way it should be, is if you are forced to leave a garage vehicle for a mission then it should go back to the garage. Leave a car just dicking around in Los Santos should mean the car is impounded.

Sometimes when you do the missions at Michaels house the car you drove there in will be on the other side of the driveway from his sedan you always have to use.

I can't fly a helicopter to save my life. Drunk Billy would be proud.

My flying skills are the complete opposite to what they are in BF3. I can drive the hell out of helicopter in BF, but I look like I have some serious downs when I am in one in GTA. The planes are fun as hell to fly in GTA though and I just sort of glide around in them on BF not able to actually shoot anything without crashing.

When you're trying to go forward, hold RT or R2 and hold the stick forward. ONLY turn with RB and LB or R1 and L1.
That's what I do and it helps. Tough to break the habit of using the sticks to turn though.

Dude, that's a pretty big spoiler in the no spoiler thread.
You may want to edit that out. Thankfully I recently finished that mission.

I've gotten pretty good at flying. The many times I had to repeat the flight school lessons definitely helped.

I thought the sky diving lessons were much harder than the helis.

Yep, tried to do them yesterday, got bored and just turned the game off.

Yeah it isn't TOO bad if you're patient with it. I learned on the fly with the helicopter.
Maybe SPOILER?
I was working on arranging the first 'trevor heist' and went into it blind.

I have no problem flying the helis. the only thing I had to get used to was that the right stick moving the camera all over the place.
for the skydiving lessons, I just needed to figure out the angle and when to pull my parachute to land on target.

My initial reactions after about 6 hours last night after Bama then LSU game ended (stayed way too damn late but I'll do it again tonight). Some background..I'm a PS3 user, PS2 before that and have played every GTA since "GTA III" on it extensively,
- I can't remember a game ever being this expansive and detailed on the PS3
- The driving changes were minor but ridiculously better, I read a lot on here talking about how much harder it was but it came easy to me for what ever reason. I'm guessing it is because I played racing games so extensively in HS up till a few years ago from NFS ProStreet to Tokyo Extreme Racer (a game GTAV's racing system feels a lot like controls wise)
- With the expansion of landscape, the format of 3 different characters living completely different lives intertwined was brilliant and so well written to showcase the depth of the landscape even early on in the game. This will also add so much extra to the online play when added on the 1st of October...CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS!!
- Aiming and shooting mechanics are hard to get used to at first if you were a GTA purist but I only realized this was because of how much it was an afterthought on previous games and not a strength on this game. More complicated actions in older GTAs like switching weapons and hand combat while shooting were all improved as well as reverb mechanics and the element of surprise on an attack makes a difference as well as you surroundings (ex. Buying a flashlight to attach to the shotgun saves your arse in the dark warehouse in that mission). All these little elements were complete afterthoughts in previous GTA games and it makes a difference in living or dying in this one...very impressive.
- Even early on the expansive extra curricular activities are also impressive from Tennis and Golf to taking skrippas home to the movie theater to more customization of cars (also extensively mentioned on here also feel the same about cars saving but I'm sure a patch will fix it) than you could ever do.
This game is the same mind-blowing genre changing type game it's predecessor GTA III was and easily one of the best games I've played on PS3 by far. Time passes by quickly and 6 houses seemed like 2 and I was still wanting to go run more missions
This game is MOTHERfrickING AWESOME!! Deserves the highest rating I've ever seen on either gen

quote:it would be awesome if they would make it like a whole region of the country and you could use aircraft to get to other cities because it would take FOREVER to drive there.
I can't imagine what the next GTA will be like on next gen. Where would they go? Back to Vice City? Somewhere new?
I can't even imagine what the next gen version will be like since this one is so awesome
