To get this back on track, my only concern would be games coming out over the next year or two being compatible on PS5. There's a lot of great games and remasters that just came out for PS4 and I'd hate for those to not be playable anymore.

Also, glad I haven't bit on upgrading to a Pro yet either. Switch will hold me over.

It's fully backwards compatible with PS4.

And has a UHD BluRay player this time.

The better the graphics, the more the games cost to make. This is why studios are dying off and game developers rely so much on existing franchises

At least one person doesn’t think there’s much chance of the PlayStation 5 being released this year, as infamous games industry analyst Pachter suggests 2020 is more probable. Such is Pachter’s reputation that some will take his comments to mean a 2018 launch is more likely than ever, but he’s not always wrong and does have a lot of important industry contacts. Website Wccftech asked him about recent PlayStation 5 rumours that stated a release this year or next was what Sony is currently aiming for. According to Pachter though a 2018 release has a ‘very low probability’. Instead, he suggested that 2020 has a 75% chance of being the release year, followed by 2019 at 25%.

Looks like the dev kit rumor is in fact true, multiple leaks here from insiders lately have all said dev kits did in fact go out earlier this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 is being built with it apparently.

I would still think it will be Zen+7nm Vega with some Navi features.

The crypto market is bright red the last few months, it's very possible it's already getting to a point that will allow GPU's to come down in price

Article in OP has been debunked as pretty much pure BS by developers that actually make the games.

If there are any dev kits out in the wild they are few and far between and are very early stage dev kits (ie. custom pc's).

Will be 2020 at the earliest.

It didn't take devs to confirm this as BS.

We know what the fabs are doing and the expected output for Navi.

Most devs have heard nothing about the PS5. If it was releasing this year every dev studio would have a dev kit already and if they were planning on releasing the console in time for the holiday shopping season it would already be in production.

If releasing in 2019 the above is also true minus the console already being in production.

Also, Sony is still making a killing on the PS4 and PS4 Pro and still outselling the Xbox. It is too early for the PS5.

Kotaku - The PS5 is Still a Ways Off

"Most of the developers I spoke to, via phone and email and text, said they had not heard anything about plans for a new PlayStation. Even employees at Sony’s first-party studios said they have not yet been briefed on the existence of a PlayStation 5. People across all the disciplines (design, art, engineering, etc.) at major studios working on games scheduled for 2019 and beyond have told me that if there is information about the PS5 at their companies, they haven’t heard about it. (Those people said they haven’t heard about a new Xbox, either.)

In summary: There is information about the PlayStation 5 floating around at both first- and third-party companies, but it’s far more limited than it would be if the console’s release was imminent."

We would have heard rumors from the fabs about Navi months before dev leaks.

It was a BS article from jump street. Reason I asked the most informed tech person ever simple questions which idk for an answer.

Dev kits being out since early in the year are factual, nothing about that is false. About 20 leakers with proven track records have come out and said as much in the last couple of weeks.

But it also isn't surprising as dev kits go out around 2 years ahead of launch like with the Xbone and PS4.

Just Cause 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 are the 2 titles being used for "Enhanced" versions of the PS5.

I am still hearing late 2019 arrival with the launch of Last of Us 2 from my Sony pals.
