It just went on sale for Switch, $10. I'm tempted to buy it since I've seen so many people rave about it. Reviews indicate it performs decently on the Switch.
I have it on both Switch and PS5 and although I've mostly been playing on PS5 because it seems to perform a little better and is so gorgeous on a big tv, the Switch version runs fine and the idea of being able to play this on the go is pretty appealing.
Thank you everyone too for sharing your tips and experiences with the game!! I love finding something that's a little bit off the beaten path like this and I'm glad to see so many people appreciate the game as much as I do.

Visual spoilers in the Skillup review. Not that you will know any of the areas but he does show lots of the different biomes so if you want to go in with zero knowledge skip it or as he said, only listen to the review.
Skillup doesn't like survival games and he has a great positive review of the game. I disagree with him about the last 1/3 of the game.

Yahtzee hates almost everything and even though he wanted to hate it, he finished the game which he rarely does if it isn't FromSoft.

If you haven’t watched the rig on Amazon prime, im pretty sure they heavily lifted from subnautica.
Great game, probably my all time favorite along with the forest. I was disappointed in sub zero though. Felt like they moved far away from the exploration and beauty.

Is this game akin to Soma?

Not too much... maybe in terms of atmosphere a little but Soma seemed more like outright horror to me where this is more a survival/crafting game set mostly underwater. The horror in this game comes more from the unknown. Since you're on an alien planet, you have no idea at first what creatures are dangerous, where it's safe to go, etc...

One of my all-time favorite games! Below Zero is pretty good as well, but I definitely prefer the original. If you haven't played it, Valheim scratched a similar itch for me.

It has been a long time since I enjoyed a game so thoroughly.

Yeah, you’ll need the rad suit and probably should have the propulsion gun, too.
Although you can find fire extinguishers there (and a random flashlight), I hope it isn't too spoilerish to suggest you need, at a minimum:
1. Cutting tool
2. Repair tool
3. Propulsion cannon
(ETA: I can't disagree with bringing 3 or 4 FEs to get you started, depending on how efficient you are at putting out fires.)
...and I believe there is 1 door code from the prerecorded messages you will want to extract and have before you go. There are some fire extinguishers, batteries, nutrient bars and water to be grabbed there, as well as some decorative items.
Good luck.

I had actually never heard of this and just wishlisted it on Steam. I've played The Forest some but it hasn't grabbed me quite like Subnautica has. Green Hell sounds pretty interesting though!

On the last episode of the Rig, pretty good so far! Nice rec

Started playing Subnautica about a week ago, roughly 20h in at this point. Extremely engaging game; just got face hugged by a Reaper. Taking a break to hang out on TD before I get up the nerve to fire it back up

One of my favorite survival games. I wish the game was optimized better but even with lots of pop in and frame rate drops when trying to catch fish, I still had a lot of fun. I have about 400 hours in it. Probably played it about 10 times. I destroyed frame rates building multiple bases and connected them all with glass hallways.
I had one base at the dunes then connected to a base at the front of the ship then connected another base in the weed area.

My performance is actually great, basically never dropping below my locked 120 cap (though I haven’t built anything elaborate yet), but yeah, the pop in is rough. I wish it had a draw distance setting.

Depends on how big you build. I built some crazy stuff. Normal builds won't break the game.

While by no means new hardware at this point, I’m running a 3080/5800x/32gb RAM system, so I’m hoping the good performance holds on just a bit longer

that sounds wild! I loved Subnautica. truly a one of a kind game, but to me it was one of those games that once i was done with it, It was like I had broken the game formula and couldn't unlearn it.
there's no getting back that first time discovery high.
the next one with co-op should help with that a lot.

Currently taking a break from advancing the game and am in the process of making a cozy, pretty base in the jellyshroom cave. Very hard decisions being made: where do I sacrifice placing windows so I can place reinforcements to then place more windows

I never did build a base there. It looks nice but not a ton of resources in there.
