which your dell has.
it's an HP. but that's beside the point. when i upgrade to a better graphics card, which will have an hdmi plug in, will the sound not come out of that along with the video?

you should already have integrated sound on it. Look for the green/light green audio jack on the back of the computer.
If you don't have one of those (which I find highly doubtful since you have an onboard gpu) you can buy a cheap one.

Are you playing on a TV?

A) if you are getting a new graphics card with HDMI, you really have to make sure your motherboard is going to accept it.
B) The HDMI out is for being able to put out video in HD to an HDTV, I wouldn't recommend using your HDMI port 100% of the time, you need to use your DVI ports because A - they are going to be more responsive and B - that is what your Graphics card is designed to use 99% of the time. This is what the DVI looks like:

Also go look, Croaka showed you a picture of what a "frat move" would be, and why he was not frat.

it's running off the vga cable right now. i don't have a dvi cable and i don't think it has the port on the computer either. but yes, i have my tv set up as the monitor right now.

whenever you get the new graphics card, you will want to switch to DVI, it's just better to have the picture not mixed with the audio through an HDMI chord and run your sound separate. Also get a computer monitor.. weird running a computer on a TV.

You need a PCI Express 2.1 x16 port

I have a PCI Express 2.0 x16 port on my desktop at home, I am going to end up having to spend a lot more money than a "new" graphics card cost because of it.. and mine is 1 1/2 years newer than yours. They have probably discontinued all normal PCI Express Cards.
