Count me in the 5-10 hdcp 30-40 age range. I hit my 3 iron 230
That’s probably not too unusual, especially if it’s a 3 iron that’s probably more like a 2 iron.
A lot of players in that range can poke it pretty good; they just aren’t as consistent as the low single digit or plus guys.
I’m in my early 30’s and in the same distance and handicap range. Used to be a better player but work and family start cutting into your game at a certain point.

You’d be too busy laughing at me hitting driver then 5 wood on 394 yard par 4.
Or a 7 wood on a 174 yard par 3.
I forgot how little I played when my kids were at home.
You need to play in scrambles with that length. Get a big hitter like you, a couple of older guys who can putt, and another decent player and you can go low.

I got that covered. lol. I play with an older guy that is a scratch handicap but short, another older guy that is a 3-4 that has decent length, and another guy around my age that is average length but throws dart at the hole. We normally do good but not good enough to overcome the bottomless mulligan and "close enough" groups. lol

This day and age with juiced clubs people are def more skeptical. I’ve played my entire life and always hit the ball pretty long for kids my age. But, after the marine corps i began training and became pretty strong and my distances are pretty long for an amateur. Im 35 now and I hit my drives anywhere from 300-330 pending conditions. I carry 3-PW Mp52 (Actual has more loft than most forged irons these days and I’ve been fitted but too cheap to buy new irons for myself so mine aren’t fitted) with 3 other wedges. 50,54,58. I don’t need and or like hybrids. I hit my 3 iron 230-240 pending how I’m swinging and i hit that off majority off the tees. I don’t understand how some of these people think there’s some type of formula to how long you hit it to how low your handicap is. That really doesn’t matter as an amateur weekend golfer. I’m a new parent of 2 twins and i hunt in the winter. So i play golf about 7 months out of the year max. I can shoot anywhere from 72-90. Just because i hit the ball a good distance past majority of anyone i play with doesn’t mean I’m better than them. I’ll pump a drive 320 yards dead right off a house at times when things aren’t going well. My 70 year old father for instance hits the ball about 225 yards off the tee tops and is around a 2 handicap. There is no formula or relation between distance and handicap.

I’m often amazed at the winning scores in a scramble.
I wonder if some groups just putt until they make it and call that a mulligan?

Lol I think the problem is most people don’t take an honest score.
Before the China virus I had never taken a “gimme”. If I missed a 6 inch putt, it goes on the card.
I don’t hit every fairway (really not many), but I’m not wildly out Having to chip back into play. My wedge play is probably the best part of my game. And when I was keeping track before 2020, I averaged just under 36 putts per round.
But yea I mean unless I hit a bad tee shot, it’s going 280+. Quite honestly everyone I play with gives me shite for not hitting further for how tall I am.
But yea I’m still amazed. I’ve learned most people just don’t play honest golf. I played with a stranger one time, held the tee box the entire day, and shot low 80s and he had himself in the 70s. People just don’t play honestly and that’s their perogative I suppose.
Consistency is my killer tho. Not accurate with my long irons. Just amazed people “scores as well as they do. I’ve only broke 80 once
