Wrong. Maybe Ricky and some of the shorter guys hits it that length, but the average tour player is carrying it that long. The difference is he is putting it 10 foot from the hole consistently at that distance, I'm trying to hit the green at that distance.

PGA average doesn't even put it on the green consistently at that distance.

play the tees that give him the best chance to score well, not ones that make things more difficult.

When I go somewhere new, I play first tee over 6000 yards. If I break 80, I move back a tee on the replay.

I don’t think I’ve ever moved back for the replay.

Golf is hard.

I hit it 275-300, but I'm a 6 hanicap, what tees should I play?

A good rule of thumb is your average 5 iron distance times 36. Not that one time you thinned it down wind, down hill and airmailed it 220 yards, your true distance.

It’s not hard to imagine that some ex athletes have higher than tour average swing speeds. That doesn’t mean they are better golfers. The dick measuring contest isn’t how far you hit x club. It’s how many strokes does it take you to get it in the hole.

Sunday at grand ridge was a problem. frost delay so everything was held up. Watched 3 groups tee off in front us and all played from the tips. Out of the 12 golfers maybe 3 should have been playing those tees

Saturday at Koasati Pines was the exact same thing. Frost delay and the group in front of us playing from the tips. Those poor fellas never hit a second shot from more than 25 yard beyond the gold tees. They paid their fees and they’re entitled to play from wherever they choose, but it was kinda funny.

Can't say I've ever broken 80. 12 hcp, so usually shoot mid-80's. I can manage the distance from the tips because I have some length to my game, 250-260 carry on driver. It's my short game that kills me.

I'll keep playing men's tees because that is what all of us play at the course. Only ones who play from the tips are the University golf team and out of towners.

Boys, I'd just like to add that I just shoveled for the second time tonight, it's coming down that heavy. We're expecting 10 inches of snow and that will add to the FEET of snow we have on the ground already.

This board is keeping me sane because spring will never get here.

hit 205-210 with a 5i and I’m in no way going to be playing from 7400 yards. 6800 is a long way.

I think he means your average 5i on the course not the range. I can consistently hit 190 carry on the range. Not on the course after hitting driver and before that putting and wedge on the prior green.

12 downvotes lol. I think I struck a nerve with some 25 handicap southern baws

Or a bunch of country club baws recognize a public course player when they see one.

Take your average 5iron distance and multiply by 36, and choose the tees that most closely match that yardage. Works everywhere in the world.

I was hoping someone would say this because that’s exactly correct.

Only addition I would make is that it should be your 5 iron carry distance, and you should adjust if weather and / or wind are a big factor.
