The punishment is a 1 year suspension from his last LIV event.

This and pretending LIV is good. It’s crap. It’s a silly argument

Let him back and reduce his exemption from the PGA win by a year. Credit for time served as it were. Essentially a “year penalty” which saves face for both PGA and the player.
PGA needs to strike now while they can and finish off LIV. PGA needs these marquis players back.

Sounds like brooks is going to be back pretty soon.
Players board will approve it and the tour isn’t concerned with the precedent because they feel the tour is secured against LIV poaching anyone.
Also heard the conversation would be different for Bryson since he sued the tour.

Brooks back on
Has to donate 5 million back to PGA (tour will likely give to charity)
He loses out on roughly 50-85 million equity(he can’t join equity program for 5 years)
All other liv members have until February deadline to get similar type deal
Reported as largest potential financial penalty in sports history (
ETA:
Ineligible for 2026 FedEx Cup bonus payout
—Eligible for Presidents Cup, TGL
This “Returning Membership” policy only applies to players who’ve won a major or Players since 2022 (Koepka, Rahm, DeChambeau, Smith)

There’s only 4 guys eligible for it. Brooks, Bryson, Rahm, and Cam Smith.
Had to have a won a major or the Players between 2022-2025

Slap on wrist. The charity donation is the only up front cost. (ETA: and even that will likely be spread out over time) The equity share will depend on performance which, with purses rising, won’t mean much compared to how much he made on his LIV contract. Win win for both parties.

Was the smartest way for the PGA to do it and not involved lawsuits
I guess others could still sue because they were treated “differently”, but he was still penalized so less likely to hold up I would think. Interesting to hear lsufball19 opine

They clearly want Rahm back
Posted on 1/12/26 at 1:00 pm to usc6158
Rahm though loses a ton of money if he comes back (or should say misses out)
He hasn’t received close to his full liv money yet and then he also isn’t going to get the pga tour equity payout
We will really see what Rahm babies the most now

Bryson better chance to comeback than Rahm I would think
ETA: Hatton likely pissed right now
dude is so much better than smith right now and they don’t care . Hatton is legit a top player . Should have added like a “top 15 in datagolf rankings” to include him

So is Bryson in the same spot as Koepka - ie, a year left on his LIV deal and would need to be allowed out from under the LIV penalties to jump at this?
Posted on 1/12/26 at 1:09 pm to lsupride87
I think Rahm and cam smith are real possibilities.
Bryson is interesting, could see him doing his own thing for a little while.

Bryson can come as far as pga tour is concerned
Not sure how Liv handles contract money

Obviously they would love to have Bryson, but he never seemed to really enjoy the Tour to begin with and Rahm looks miserable most of the time now.

Bryson will resign with LIV.
He is a bigger star than Koepka & will still get a ton of Saudi $. Koepka wasn’t getting another big contract
1 thing about this deal is it’s definitely not a “LIV Killer”

Seems like they just made everything a “wash” for the top guys like Scottie, Rory, Xander etc
Brooke made roughly 75 million in contract money from LIV
He misses out on let’s say 65 million in equity money those top players will make
Minus the 5 million charity and Fed ex bonus this year he basically washes as even in money with those top guys
So less of a penalty and more like “we’re even” deal. Really well done by The Tour here

It’s a brilliant move from the tour. You get Brooks back on and you force Rahm’s hand. You set a precedent that you can do this whenever you want.
But also structuring is a one time amnesty, so if for some reason LIV starts sniffing around offering major bonuses for defectors there’s no permanent path back to membership if you’re suspended. The PGA would have to choose to open another window
