There will be lawsuits galore. But they need to do something. I'm not worried about par, per se. But they are losing a large part of the game by allowing players to hit it so far that they rarely have long iron into the green.

Par should be a fair test for the pros. Tricking up a course to keep scores high is not fair. But par needs to be protected to make it a real test of a player’s game. It shouldn’t be all about driving the ball, wedges and putting.
I don’t have the answer, but if we start seeing guys hitting wedges to 13 at Agusta then I think we’ve gone too far with equipment.

Bryson Pounds. But 20 mph wind at the back. As high as he hits it. 400y with 20mph wind is basically 360. Still twice as long as the avg drive from this board, Baws.

I'd be willing to bet Bryson has a micro penis.

All you guys commenting about 41 yds left need to understand what you are looking at on a launch monitor.
He is not 41 yds left of the center of the fairway or 41 yds in the rough. He got 41 yds of lateral travel. So he probably aimed 30-40 yds right of his intended target because he plays a big draw.
Did he miss the fairway on this drive?? I don't know but I can assure you he knows that his ball will move laterally to the left.
And Augusta has always favored a draw for right handers and fade for left handers.
OLDER ARTICLE ON FADE VS. DRAW

Not sure why everyone is freaking out.
Bryan averages 2 yards more than Champ?

I remember reading something years ago (early tiger era) that Augusta could set their own equipment standard for the tournament for some reason. Invitation, not part of the pga, whatever.
If that is true, I would like to see Augusta require balata balls and persimmon drivers for the tourney and tell everyone to suck it if they don't like it.
I do not understand why the courses allow themselves to be run over by the equipment manufactures. Especially, Augusta. Hallowed ground and all that nonsense.

quote:Narrower fairways, taller rough, and more fairway bunkers are the answer. ETA: for Par 5's that is.
They're going to have to modify the equipment, not the courses.
Reachable Par 4s will need the tips moved back, if possible.

Under the new rules, any club can require a certain type of ball. In theory, ANGC could demand all players play the same ball that restricts distance or is spinnyer.
My guess is that they could put there foot down and force the usga to change the regulations.

That is a little misleading though... Tiger could move the ball both ways very well in his early years. He only went to the fade as his predominant shot shape after the comeback.
Jack could also move the ball both ways even though his go to shot was the power fade.
Interesting Fact: Left Handers have only won 9 majors total... 6 of those are at Augusta. (3 Phil, 2 Bubba, 1 Weir)

Funniest thing is all the long drive googans coming out of the woodworks saying that they could compete on tour.

Essentially what college baseball did to the bats.
