Tiger was a better golfer than Jack, and that's a fact.

By which metric?

I'd assume all the Jack dick riders in this thread are just old boomers that want their old boy to remain on top. The fact is the competition between Jack and Tiger's era's was/is vastly different. So many more guys with the ability to get hot and win a tournament in Tiger's era. You can count any bs "metric" you want from 50+ years ago but nobody reinvented the game like Tiger. It's laughable this is even an argument.

Jack drove the ball 300 yds with a McGregor Persimmon driver and a balata ball.
Jack could lift a butter knife 1 iron off the deck like Tigers 7 iron.
He played on courses that were like most Muni's condition wise today.
Golfers today don't realize how strong Nicklaus was in his forearms and hands.
Jack was equally as mentally tough as Tiger.
A young Jack vs a young Tiger with today's equipment would be a draw.
As far as Jack's competition, those guys were shooting 65 at Merion, Pine Valley and Augusta with crap equipment.

Read the beginning of Dave Pelz book on putting. Pelz was a really good college golfer but pretty much gave up his dreams of being a pro golfer because he came across a college player at Ohio State who he couldn’t compete against. He figured that if he can’t beat this college player, how in the hell was he going to compete against pro players. So he became a golf teacher.

Nobody and I mean nobody changed the game of golf like Tiger Woods, they literally had to change course layouts because of him. That’s all the metric I need… I love me some Jack and he was an amazing golfer in his prime BUT the shite Tiger Woods could do with a golf ball, was simply amazing.

They called it Tiger-proofing, but that was bullsh!t. They started changing courses for the same reason that they’re still changing courses - the technology. Tiger Woods just happened to come along right when this technology was hitting the market. Tiger Woods wasn’t the only one who was averaging over 300 yards a drive when they started changing these courses. Nowadays, the average pro is driving the ball over 300 yards. Many are hitting their 3 woods, over 300 yards.
The reason why these golf courses are being changed is strictly due to the technology that has evolved in golf equipment. I guaranf*ckingtee you that if Jack Nicklaus would’ve had titanium and graphite clubs and Pro V1 balls during his prime, these courses would’ve been changed a long time ago.

This is fun. Let’s do Jordan vs lebron next
Posted on 8/25/21 at 7:51 pm to whichyalnoaboutseven
He won’t ever win another PGA event in his lifetime. Maybe not even a top 10. Stick a fork in him.

Jesus…. can we stop talking about what they played with? They both played tech available for that day. My metric is simple, on any given Sunday in his prime, nobody that has ever walked planet earth could touch him. Who the goat is really doesn’t matter, in their prime, equal equipment, tied on sunday, gun to your head….. you’re all picking Tiger and you know it.

Wrong.
I’m taking Jack. You can talk to any golfer from the 60s and 70s and they will tell you that Jack was just as intimidating as Tiger, if not more.
Because of Jack, Tiger's entire focus from when he was a young kid was to beat Jack's Majors record. He didn’t even come close.
They were both easily the greatest golfers of their generation. But no one could even touch Jack's Majors record (first and second place). And, at the end of the day, even Tiger would tell you that’s the only thing that counts.

And, of course, it would be wrong!

Because of Tigers injuries. If he stayed as healthy as Jack did up into his 40’s I’m 100% positive he would’ve smoked Jack’s record.
Tiger lost years of his career in what would’ve been the prime of his game

Ed Fiori beat Tiger, pretty sure Jack could.
Like I said before I would estimate a draw in 10 matches.
Both Tiger and Jack changed the game for sure.
But so did the ball. And there is ZERO doubt about that.

This is an absurd opinion. Tiger was on pace to shatter Jack’s record at age 32. Took Jack until age 35 to win his 14th major.
Even now, how the frick is 15 not a close number to 18?
The only reason, and I mean THE only reason Tiger won’t catch Jack is injuries.

There's so many cold takes and just straight up misinformation in this thread its unreal. Think my favorite dumb quote from this all is "Jack was equally as mentally tough as Tiger."
