Which 14 pga events would be compromised by this?
The best are going to play roughly 20 ish events a year.
So jays choice was “let the players willing leave for LIV and implode the pga” or “ban them and make a few posters on tigerdroppings angry”

A second year tour getting over 10 percent of what the pga tour did on CW vs the tour on network television is pretty strong IMO.
Is it? I could see your point if it was just something else to watch, but there are some horses in that second year startup league. Seems like their strategy was gobble up the best players and eyeballs will come with it. Do they expect to coincide with the PGA as the dominant tour?
Just not sure how this could be spun as a success unless making money is completely ignored. What is their revenue model?
I honestly don’t know anything about this, I’m shocked that it made it this far because I never understood how they planned to make money, and keep the best players that naturally have to prove themselves as such in the PGA. But it has, so I am genuinely curious

What was the pga attorneys options the year before when The players tried to partner with the PGA which would have killed LIV? Was laughing at and mocking the players the best option poor Monohan and the attorneys had?

If LIV didn’t exist, would you have watched DJ play in the Honda last week?
Did you have the chance to see DJ play last week?

So, the pga tour has managed to keep the heavy majority of the top players, dominate the ratings game, all against a competitor that has endless cash to offer the players without any needs to make a profit
Seems like they did something pretty damn impressive

But I would have seen him the previous two weeks against the best in the world, and these next two weeks agaisnt the best on the world
Instead, he doesn’t play those 4 weekends and instead waits for another weekend to compete agaisnt Cam and a few other good players

So last week you had more golf. Got it.

but if your opening event of the season can’t come anywhere close to one of the weakest events of your competitor, what does that say?
If LIV was broadcast on golf channel, nbc, cbs, or fox, their ratings would’ve been similar to what the Tour got this weekend.

Yeah.
Had the Honda Classic been on the CW and YouTube, their numbers would’ve been far lower than what they got. I don’t think any reasonable person would disagree.
DJ, Koepka, Bryson, Cam Smith, etc are infinitely more exciting to watch than the product the Tour put out this weekend.
When the PGA Tour puts on its best show, LIV can’t compete.
I think if LIV could get one of the major networks to bite, they could get as many viewers as the Tour’s “B” tournaments.

It’s not really like any of those guys were in contention. Bryson and Brooks might stink. I agree with what you’re saying in general, but I don’t think that Chucky three sticks beating Peter Uhlein by 5 shots is necessarily more exciting than Chris Kirk winning in a playoff.

LIV is dead, but it has backers that don’t mind throwing money to a dead horse.
People are crazy if they think the Saudi’s do not want a return on investment. They are already trying to make teams for their travel expenses.

Cam is the only guy that finished under par and he was still 10 shots off the lead. Mickelson, Koepka, DJ and Bryson finished all even or over par for a combined 6 over. How exciting!

Maybe they won't destroy it completely, but if LIV ever gets legit OWGR points, then watch the exodus
Double edge sword.
If there was a mass exodus to LIV, then it's all about the money and not the competition.
That could really turn the viewing public off. Players could be viewed as greedy and not in the best interest of the game.
The biggest complaint about LIV now is that it's not viewed as a real competition since it has no cut.
Fans want the players to earn their way in golf.
Posted on 2/28/23 at 6:58 pm to bopper50
It’s not really the No cut. I don’t think it helps the players are going on and on abkut:
How fun it is
How much less stress it is
Etc etc
That is great for them, but less than enticing for a fan
Now watch a Rahm or JT interview. The words are :
It’s tough out here
Competition is high as ever
Etc etc
The LIV guys are telling you in plain English this is a “fun league”. When we play golf, we like beer, music, maybe some cutting up
But that isn’t what the majority of people tune into see with pro sports

I have tried watching but the graphics suck and I hate all that shite that goes down the left side of the screen, which looks like hieroglyphics. And the golfers act like they don't give a shite. Strange league.
Posted on 2/28/23 at 7:32 pm to lsupride87
If it's not exciting, then no viewers and no professional golf.
It's about viewership for the products in the sponsors commercials.
Nobody cares if the players are having fun or not.
People loves watching the Pro's struggle in the majors.

LIV isn't trying to compete with the PGA Tour tho.
This is just a big frick you by the Saudis, nothing more.
This is a toy to play with by the Saudi Fund.
you can't honestly believe that this is a multi billion dollar toy they plan to continue to subsidize and never get a return on?
