Have any of yall seen or played a university course that's worse than LSU's?

Having played at UGA, I'm biased. UGA is the best university-run course I've played.

I will say Duke, UNC (Finley), and Yale are very good. Michigan was good, but WAY overpriced. A real underrated one to me is Rawls Golf Course at Texas Tech in Lubbock. Played a trade show scramble there and a practice round prior; I was very impressed.

No, it's like an hour and a half away via terrible state highways.

Yale
Karsten Creek at Oklahoma State
Taconic at Williams College

I am also biased but the Warren Course at Notre Dame is a Coore/Crenshaw that hosted the US Senior Open two years ago and deserves a nod here. It is super nice and really, really damn difficult.

Scarlet course at Ohio State is up there as well.

No, MSU is much closer (20 minutes) anyway but a lot of the players take lessons from the instructors there. MSU does have a brand new facility across the street from Waverly at the new mossy oak course. It’s pretty nice

quote:

Mossy Oak Golf Club is the official home for the practice facility of Mississippi State University men’s and women’s golf teams. The facility includes a five-green driving range, short-game training areas and a 16,000 square foot putting green formed into the shape of the State of Mississippi. The facility features a 6,400-square foot team clubhouse with locker rooms, players’ lounge, coaches’ offices, indoor putting center (with SAM PuttLab training system), exercise room and conference room. The project also features a 2,400-square foot indoor hitting bay, equipped with two Trackman swing and ball flight analysis systems and a club repair room.

University of Michigan golf course was designed by Dr. Alister McKenzie (same guy who did Augusta and cypress point).
The fact that LSU has such a dumpster fire ?? of a course is embarrassing. They act like the U club is the campus course, it isn’t! Louisiana per capita probably has the worst golf courses of any state
In the United States.

OK. Y'all need to organize this a little more. Are we talking nicest course generally or best course architecture or best facilities etc.

Yale is on the list for architecture, but it isn't a top 50 college course currently. Twitter Although I'm sure it could be if they wanted it to be.

Off the top of my head: Texas Tech has a Doak. Wake Forrest plays at Old Town Club, which is a Maxwell.

Looking at the Top 30 link, I've heard Culver Academy is good, but I'm like 99% sure it's a 9-holer. I'm not going to disagree with the ones listed in the link, but I'd love to see a full list of all the possible courses. I just don't know what schools are technically associated with what courses. Is there some random community college that has privileges as Bandon? Where does UCLA play? Have to assume it's Bel Air or Riv or LA CC? I mean, it seems like you can drive 10 minutes out of campus in any direction and hit a top 100 course. I wonder if some NY schools get privileges on Long Island. Or are we talking on campus only? I'm also assuming big city universities could have multiple home courses they rotate through.

UClub isn't on any list and LSU is probably leading the worst list.

When I started the thread I was thinking "nicest" more in terms of maintenance (hence the MSU reference), rather than design. But I've also been interested to hear about some of the tougher tracks.

Isn't The Blessings a private club? It's where your teams practice but isn't a campus golf course.

This, a lot of the courses named are private clubs or aren't accessible to people who aren't members/play golf for the school. This narrows down the list considerably. I can't just waltz out to The Blessings and play. That's why I said UGA, it's a great course that anyone can pay and play at.

Not a whole lot of courses that are "on campus" - the MSU course is a few miles from campus. The one that comes to mind for me is Springhill in Mobile - the course plays right next to the dorms. Most of the other courses mentioned are just in the area. My 2 bits
