Indian mound hole was the GOAT.
Which hole?
I believe it was number 6 going up the mound that I liked. It was always fun to hit it straight up that hill. A short miss meant you had one hell of an awkward chip back up the hill. I did almost hole out on 7 once though.

quote:Well Oakwing was the old England AFB nine hole course that they added nine more holes to. Links was a working farm so I would think the Links course easier to maintain.
Links is in great shape as usual. Oakwing and The Links are right next to one another, so you can’t blame the rain and/ or the weather on Oakwings condition.

Okay guys, I have received an email to the membership explaining the crappy greens. According to the GM's email they are blaming the greens' condition on black mold, wet and cloudy weather and a breakdown to the irrigation pump. I'm not drinking that coolaid. I am glad though that there is finally some explanation thanks to posting this on TD Golf.
Now let's address the unplayable mud holes they call bunkers. Sod caving in around the edges on some.
Overgrown landscaping, ball washers falling apart with no water in them or old stinky water and on course bathrooms that are nastier than a 25 cent peep show booth.
Don't want to be totally negative. Fairways and fringes around the greens are looking nice.

“Black mold” is easily fixable. Burn it down, sand, and let the grass grow back.
How do the neighbors have good greens if the weather is so shitty?
If you can’t grow grass in S Louisiana, you’re an idiot.

HAHA!!!!, YOU COULDNT BE MORE WRONG. Robbie G has done more for the game of golf in the state of Louisiana than anyone else has in the past 20 years. He turned AGCC around. I was a member for there for many years and that course was the best its ever been when Robbie was there. You need to get your facts straight before you start bashing someone on the internet. Go shoot 90

I played Timber Trails yesterday just because I had never played it & always wanted to give it a shot. The greens were ok (lots of grass but slow), the rest of the course is in pretty rough shape. Talked with the owner/pro. He said he is probably going to close at the end of the year because of financial issues (repairs & maintenance) & his age. So if you are unhappy @ Oakwing go give TImber Trails $24 for 9 holes in a cart. It’s worth that & it may help them out a little.

Pshhhh, he’s been playing that same sob story for at least 15 years now.

Yep. I played there once and he told me that exact story.

Is the deep south 4 ball still run / help in some shape, form or manner?
Back in the day you had
Deep South 4 ball
Firecracker 4 ball
Cotton States
Firecracker was first to fall - probably early 80s - late 70s was peak. I still go watch some of the college kids play at Cotton States if I can make it in town. Have not heard anything about the Deep South in a number of years.

Now played at OakWing. Same format as always. The tournament is its own entity and not tied to a golf course per say so it was moved when AGCC closed.

I’m playing Mystic creek next Friday. They said we couldn’t play the weekend, because of “the firecracker” She said it like I was supposed to know what it is.

Morehouse Country Club hosted the Firecracker - from the 60s until early 80s, it was the premier 4 ball event in the Ark-La-Miss. Maybe even a bigger region.
MCC still holds a firecracker but nothing close to the old heyday. I would bet that Mystic is trying to reenergize that format. They have the course to make it a first class event.
D1 players would hit up the firecracker then coke back to Monroe a month later for Cotton States.

Pretty much every 4th of July weekend tournament anywhere is called "the firecracker"
The AGCC spring four ball was called the Spring Classic that was the other big one I remember

Me and some buddies play out there quite often when we want to play 5 people games without slowing anyone down. We always have a blast because we accept the course for what it is. Lou has been telling us he is selling for at least the last 4 years. He refuses to sell to someone to make it residential, and he overvalues the property. He will continue to fix it as best as 1 person can, then bitch about not enough play on Facebook. It’s an endless circle.

That is so wrong. Ball washers have been neglected since day one. Been a member since it opened. At some point people need to stop using COVID as an excuse for being lazy and inept.

That’s fair. But if you are going to have something maintain it. Just like the bunkers.
