First of all, it's in the middle of nowhere. Second of all it's a poorly designed golf course with lay ups on two of the par 5's off the tee. Might be okay if you're a big fisherman that loves to play golf, but your wife will be bored after the second day because of lack of shopping and what not. I would love to see their books since it opened. Friend of mine who has since moved from here was on the Sabine Authority board at one time and said if it doesn't get a casino boat, it'll never profit. But sometimes companies, Authorities aren't interested in profits. When Emerald Hill's was open, it offered two golf courses less than a half hour from each other to play. Not anymore. And lastly since its opening, very rarely in good shape.

I get that part, but the rest is exactly why you do what they are doing.

As many times as I have been to TB for either fishing or golf or both, a female has come with me exactly once.

Part of the renovations is to correct this.

Haven't played at my "home" course in years, this is the picture from the website. I'm sure it still looks this good.

Sabine River Authority is putting the vast majority of the money up & maybe all of the money for the course. I’m not exactly sure.

They are actually making the par 5’s respectable. They are straightening #’s 9 & 10, so they won’t be lay ups with irons. They are also moving the tee boxes back on #12. It will still be a dogleg, but you will be hitting at least a long iron & maybe up to driver.

The SRA also told members that the new contract they have will give them the ability to keep the hotel owner’s (who runs the golf course) feet to the fire on course maintenance. We’ll see.

I will not argue that it is going to struggle to get enough play to make a real go of it. But it has the potential to be one of the top courses in the state. Not many courses in Louisiana have the terrain that Cypress has at its disposal. Toledo Bend serves as a tremendous backdrop. If the par 5’s are done right, the course layout is pretty good. The par 3’s as a group are very good. There aren’t any monster holes.

Their biggest problem is hiring employees that know what they’re doing & care about the whole operation. As I said, I’m excited to see how it plays. But we’ll see if the staff will be able to keep it in good shape. They definitely have not done so the first time around.

CCL?

What I consider my "home" course, even though I'm not a member. I just play it more than others. And it doesn't look near this good anymore, unfortunately.

The Patriot - Ninety Six, SC

You tee off on 1 and 10 from the ramparts of a 30 foot high star fort, and play 18 into the fort. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen, and moved the family here after playing. Also $2 Ultra's.

Is the patriot fully private? I live outside of Augusta wouldn’t mind driving up there with a group for a round. I didn’t see any way to get a tee time on the website more just trying to get you to buy real estate
