1 was the toughest opening hole in the area.
The four par fives were fun although the back nine ones were too tight.
Nice little semi private course. A big plus was it was open to the public and had a driving range.

It is along withe Manakiki GC in Willoughby Hills OH as the only 2 on there list in Ohio. These courses are only 25 miles apart and are on my groups weekly rotation. Both $58 18/cart on weekends this time of year.

Old Head in Ireland. Half the holes are on the cliff. 30 mph wind. On one hole, the caddie told me to aim over the ocean, and the wind would blow it back into the fairway. I did and it did!

I absolutely hated this course. Not only was it in pretty bad shape when I played it last Spring, it was a goofy layout.

I was never a huge fan of Manakiki. I don't live in NE Ohio anymore but when I did, every round at that place was minimum 5 hours. Way too many people played out there. It didn't help that the starter was always an 80 year old fart who seemed to get off on being an a-hole. Is it still like that now?

Tons of great golf in Cleveland. Little Mountain/Stonewater/Boulder Creek/The Quarry/Shale Creek are top notch daily fee courses off the top of my head. I can think of a few private courses that are arguably top 100 too.

Columbus was just as good. The OSU Scarlet Course compares to any collegiate course in the country and is one of my personal favorites.

Well, when Alister McKenzie designs a golf course, they tend to be awesome to play.

When I was a student there, it cost only $30 (for students) to play Scarlet, right after the Nicklaus redesign around 2005. Best value I've ever had playing golf.

In non-Covid years, its one of the best US Open qualifying sites because it takes place the Monday after The Memorial ends and most of the PGA guys trying to qualify just stay there. Its free to go watch too.

Under the radar stupid hard course: Laurel CC in Laurel, Ms.

Fernwood CC in MS is the same. For nice courses it’s Firestone for me.

Manakiki old fricks still rule the starters stand...early mornings or weekday nooner is the way to go there or it will get long. All the courses you mentioned is what makes NE Ohio one the best areas for the number of high quality, well maintained tracks. Unheard of rates, for quality facilities compared to most everywhere else. Late spring, summer, early fall incredible weather to match, although only 6 months, is hard to beat.

Lake Course at Olympic was a beast for me. It goes back and forth across the side of a big hill with everything pulling towards the lake at the bottom. It seemed like the only flat spots were the tee boxes.

Some of the best opening holes in golf...then it feels like you’re going dead uphill the next 13 holes. 6900yds feels like 7300

Lake Course at Olympic

Olympic is probably my favorite course. Played a few times in high school before they removed a ton of trees. Got to play the Lake and Ocean last summer and it was fantastic again. Definitely didn’t have a level lie all day on the Lake course.

St. Andrews Old Course in September, many years ago. It was cold, WINDY, and rainy. At the time I was about an 10 handicap. I shot a 109. Those pot bunkers are a killer.

Not to mention the rough was,...well rough. Your ball could be a foot off the fairway and there might be no way to advance it any real distance.
