Who here plays a controlled fade?

I’ve drawn the ball my whole life but just had a range session playing with a slightly open stance with the club lined up to the target on the target line and I was flushing everything.
It felt like I could go as hard as I could and it wouldn’t hook but had a slight left to right flight.
Not sure this will translate immediately to the course but I think I want to play this thing from here on out.
People who do hit a fade, how do you set up for it?
Seems to be a lot more control in the shot, but I’ve never played a round of gold intentionally trying to fade it all day.

Hit one into the wind and report back.
I played a fade most of my life. 3 years ago, I went through a total swing change and learned to draw the ball. I’ll never go back.

I play a fade, for the simple fact of only having one miss. Feet and lower body are lined up left of target, shoulders and upper body towards.

inb4 "I play a fade but it's not controlled"

Kinda just my natural swing I guess. I just come kinda straight back with the backswing as opposed to more inside for a draw. I get my hands a little higher than I would for a draw. I tee it up pretty high.
If I want to cut it I bring the club a little more outside on the backswing.
Disclaimer: I hit a lot of fairways but I'm not winning any long drive contests.

Worked for Jack Nicholas.

I mainly play a fade. It sits much softer. You can talk to a fade but not a draw.

Pros get away with it because they use it appropriately.
Also they bomb

I can fade it mostly when I want to. Preference is a draw because it feels more natural with the swing.
Occasionally that fade turns into a double cross which never ends well.

I’d recommend you play whatever is easier, more repeatable and natural to your game. You want to know where the ball is going, whatever that is. If you have no idea, that’s not optimal for scoring. I have changed several times by correcting swing flaws I didn’t like. I don’t care which way it curves a little, but just want to know what to expect.

More of a banana fade kinda guy.

Man if I were you as an amateur I wouldn't go down this path. You will have some painful rounds with 2 way misses if you are trying to shape the ball unnaturally. I would know because that's what I've been doing for 6 months. I will say when the drivers on it's amazing to take out the entire left side miss which is typically unplayable.

Define "controlled"
It fades for sure but I don't have a lot of control over it. I can't draw the ball with the driver at all. I can randomly snap hook TF out of it though.

Me. I guess it's controlled because I score pretty good but my mistake off the tee is falling back on it occasionally and pushing it right.
As some one earlier mentioned, it is harder in the wind. But taking a club up every now and then is not a big deal to me.

I just tee it lower and play it back one ball. Butter-cut power stinger I like to call it...lol.

More spin so that makes sense

My miss is a pull. It's usually not a bad miss unless there is water on the left side. But I feel like the pull is pretty easy to guard against. As long as I don't transition from the backswing too quickly, it won't pull.

It’s hard for me to explain because I’ve always hit a face (okay it used to be a slice) off the tee.
I just set up aiming at the left edge of the fairway, I pick a tree on the line in the distance.
I usually set up to where a straight shot will be okay and a fade will be perfect and then let it rip.
If I am trying to hit a fade then it is a full on spinet slice, I’m so confident in my ability to fade it I will aim at hazards occasionally and fade it off of them if I’m really feeling it that day.
I’ll say this, when I stopped trying to hit it straight and embraced the fade is when my handicap dropped from a 12 to a 6.
Like a few others have said the big issue with the fade is it can come out soft and spinning and lose a ton of distance, especially if there is wind

Lee Trevino never seemed to have any issues with the wind

The other thing to realize is that the pros and better players aren’t hitting a slice-that-doesn’t-curve-as
-much fade. They’re hitting a power fade. They’re hitting a fade with a slightly inside to out path, just like you would with a draw, but the face is slightly open. It’s basically a draw backswing/downswing and a fade follow through. It’s Ben Hogan’s mechanics with modern clubs and balls that don’t curve as much.
It’s really hard to master, and I’m very far from it, but there’s no better feeling in golf than puring one of those types of shots.
