I have pretty intense sports practice twice a week and have a hard time falling asleep after. Practice ends at 9 and I'd like to be in bed by 10 cause baw gotta at the plant early.

Last night was laying in bed until midnight not able to sleep. I think it has to do with my heartrate staying high for hours after. Anyone has issues with this and have a solution? I'd rather not have to take melatonin or some other sleeping pills if avoidable.

Are you taking pre-workout? Make sure you are properly hydrated after your workout.

I experienced this when I would lift and/or do cardio in the evenings. I now workout in the morning or afternoon for that reason.

If you’re a real man with a plant job why are you going to sports “practice”? You’re not gonna make the show baw. Grow up and start paying child support like a real man

No caffeine after 12. Unfortunately, I’m a big coffee guy, so a Benadryl and melatonin is my cure. I take at 9:30, out by 10

I’m always humbled when new guys come here and they don’t even know that taking 60mg melatonin nightly is a requirement to post here

I take melatonin and half a unisom every night before bed and I sleep great. I drink all day until 3ish I’d say.

What kind of practices are you doing and why are they ending at 9? I understand the work time but is there any way these practices can start sooner/finish earlier?

How late in the day are you consuming caffeine? What about sugar?

This is a risk of late work outs and coming home amped up, regardless of caffeine intake. This used to be me until I got a hold on it.

You need to down regulate and get in parasympathetic mode. I do breathwork every night and now fall right asleep 9/10 nights. Look into HRV breathing. A typical pattern would be as simple as 4 second nasal inhales, 8 second exhales (nasal or mouth). The whole point is to slow yourself down. There’s a ton of literature and podcasts on this.

Yeah I need to look at this. As a runner when I have a tough workout or long run that is pretty taxing, my HR is sky high the rest of the day and my sleep usually suffers. Of course this is when sleep/repair is most important and it’s usually my worst sleep.

Probably not the healthiest method, but I train in martial arts 2-3 times a week and usually leave to go home around 830 or so. The easiest method I’ve found is crushing a high abv beer or a bourbon neat while showering and getting ready for bed

Either accept you'll be going to sleep later or stop exercising that late.

I just started taking 250mg magnesium and 2.5mg of melatonin around 8:30/9pm and find my sleep to be way better.

Try Magnesium Bi-glycinate prior to bed.
