I'm not religious, but I agree with at least the spirit of this recommendation.

Also, this will sound dumb, but if you have friends and family, find some, and get together and sing out loud together. Sing songs that you feel in your chest - and sing them loud.

There’s a ton of great advice in this thread, but it’s useless if you’re not proactive and put it to use. Take the best 2 or 3 ideas you like and get to work on them one at a time. You got this, man. We got you!

Mushrooms with friends going into it with a specific intention.

Ayahuasca always in a closed group over a 6 yr period with the 2nd-4th times coming within months of each other. Group of anywhere from 25-35. Some of the same people in the last 3 ceremonies. One of which brought up the memories of the sexual abuse. But I got awareness and possibly relief from applying the insights mostly around breaking cycles, in my case cycle of explosive anger that had been passed down from my parents. One of which also a victim of sexual abuse.

I would say mushrooms are relatively safe for everyone. Ayahuasca, there needs to be more caution. You have to ween off ssri’s and other medications and even eat a pretty basic diet. There lots of literature on the diet leading up to it. If you’re interested, I can intro you to the people who lead some of the ceremonies out in California. They grow all their stuff organically in Hawaii and have better and safer bottling practices than you may find in central and South America

IMO, you need an even more intentional set and setting.

For mushrooms, there are several very high quality retreat centers - one in Jamaica and one in the Netherlands. I strongly recommend the one in Jamaica for reasons I can go into if you are interested.

For ayahuasca, I think you also need to be more intentional - and have a smaller group (although I LOVE community retreats). You might need to go on one where you dose like 8 times in 2 weeks (and they'll give you San Pedro also).

For high-dose psilocybin (which is what I recommend for you), one must taper off of SSRIs as well.

I know of a few reputable 5meo retreats as well.

I really do urge you to go deeper this route and root out this repressed/suppressed sexual abuse monster.

You should also consider engaging with an actual integration therapist - basically, regular therapists that have experience/skill in helping you understand and integrate your trips. There should be at least some in whatever you are in.

I'm pulling for you - and I have a LOT of direct resources to put you in touch with. Please LMK, and we can possibly continue this offline. I have seen many in your position make significant progress.

Keep fighting, brother. And get out there and sing like I said!

This is what I was going to suggest. It's amazing how having one person smile and say "thank you" can make you feel. It can be hard, especially on the darkest of days, but that's when it's the most rewarding.

Very positive post. I’m no expert, but maybe helping others in a similar situation may help you.
I’m looking forward to reading about your progress and will do some research on your suggestions.

Basically, safe for everyone that doesn't have diagnosed bipolar or psychosis of some kind (even then, I question that, but that's where we are presently).

All of the psychedelics + MDMA have vast therapeutic potential. They are almost all quite safe as well. MDMA has potential neurotoxicity, so should be used less frequently. Ibogaine can cause heart stuff, so that should ONLY be done in the presence of a professional.

But psilocybin, ayahuasca, DMT, mescaline and LSD are great, all in their own ways.

My wife grew up Catholic. We don’t really zone in on denominations but we go to Broadmoor Methodist, traditional service, and we absolutely love it.

Djangochained, sorry about your friend and his kid.

Wouldn’t really call myself healthy, and never really understood the you should get over it because it could be worse.

Dude, this is thinking from like 50 years ago. Essentially just, "get over it". It doesn't work like that. And it's why a good portion of current adults are messed up.
