I get your sentiment but the delivery is a little off.

I like to look at it this way:
When I was feeling down or in a deep pit of self-pity, I was told to make a gratitude list.
Take out a sheet of paper and just start listing things you’re grateful for. Nothing is too trivial to write.
-friends
-family
-electricity
-can walk
-can talk
-have a job
-have Netflix
Etc
Etc
Etc
The list grows very quickly and before you know it a whole page has been filled up. Keep going.
It has helped me through some dark times and made me realize how good I actually have it.

Someone recommended this to me and I just finished it on Audible. Its new so it covers the pandemic as well. She's a famous psychiatrist in the UK that went viral for posting daily Tik Tok videos on mental health.

She has a PDF that they send you when you buy the audio book and it talks about making a gratitude list. Sounds cheesy but it works. She talks about doing it over and over daily to retrain your brain to not immediately think the worst thing when something bad happens.

I contacted the diocese where I grew up and reported the abuse. They’re going to help me find some counseling out here in California.

What exactly is your addiction? I'm a borderline alcoholic. Never did drugs or puffed on a jernt. I've been in a loony place for a week bak in 2016. If it's drugs, get some treatment and talk to someone. Message me. Let's talk

I’ll just say it’s a hell of a drug.

Well better get it handeled when your young. As you older it gets worse. You got a fighting chance when your young.

When you get old, you start realizing all the choices you could have made different if you just would have been a little clear headed.

Seek help in some form. Before going any further with it.

This is a great recommendation. Bessel van der Kolk is the leading psychiatrist in treating trauma. If you can find someone who was trained in his methods I think that would be helpful for you. His organization is the Trauma Research Foundation. A quick glance at their website doesn’t show a referral list to find someone in your area but there is a contact option and they could likely assist you.

I’ve been listening to the Shawn Ryan podcast. He’s an ex seal that interviews mostly special warfare type guys but also some others. They almost all battle addiction issues and ptsd and TBI when they get out and suicide is very common. He spends a lot of each podcast talking with them about how they got through it. There’s some really good advice.

Echoing this and your more detailed comment. Back when I was going through some difficult times, that was one of the books I read. In that same vein:

When Things Fall Apart - Pema Chodron
Radical Self Acceptance - Tara Brach
Wherever you go, there you are - Jon Kabat Zin
Complex PTSD - Pete Walker

After I had a traumatic brain injury, the only thing that did anything was full spectrum cbd along with lions mane from host defense. Literally would have the most vivid and awful nightmares every night and throughout the day would imagine things that were horrific. Started taking both of those and within two weeks I was good.

You've got to know that, even if people don't act like it or realize it, the last thing they want is for you be gone. Literally just talk to your family. Tell them.

Stay strong brother. Help is always around. Going out like that is never the answer. If nothing else, vent here until you find a viable option
