Had one a few years ago in my upper 40’s. My GP got a weird reading on an EKG during my annual (turns out because they didn’t know what they were doing) so referred me to a cardiologist. Also, my dads side of the family all have heart issues so it wasn’t a bad idea…but I’ve never had any issues, used to run and am roughly the same weight as I was 20 years ago.

Battery of tests … all fine…and did a calcium screening. Results posted to mycharts the next day and were off the scale….scared the shite out of me. Cardiologist wasn’t urgent about it and set a follow up for some kind of ultrasound for arterial flow…I honestly thought I was either going to be admitted for a cath or die before the appointment.

Turns out everything is flowing fine…I just have a proclivity of building plaque (funny thing is my dentist said the same thing….have no idea if it’s related). My cholesterol has been <200 my whole life but she put me on a statin and aspirin just to keep things lubed up. Have annual follow ups and haven’t looked back.

TLDR…yes but don’t panic if your numbers are high.

Dad had his first heart attack at 31. So, he preached heart health to his kids until the day he died.

I had my calcium score at 47. It’s easy and takes less than 30 mins to get done. Mine was zero. Cardiologist told me to come back in 10 years.

Had mine done at 62. Scored a 25. Thought was good but cardiologist said that the only “good” score is 0. I was already doing everything he would have prescribed. Being on aspirin , statin , good diet and exercise. I see him yearly.

Not a huge deal. Like others have said, it's probably worth following up with your cardiologist but you're not going to drop dead. They may start you on a low dose statin to keep.

<- scored a 0 at 27yo, dad had heart problems starting around that age

40 yrs old
Work out 3-4 days a week
Eat good diet
Never smoked, dont drink
Weigh 160lbs

Had calcium score done in feb... 435

Ended up having the following done
2 ekg
Echocardio gram
Heart monitor worn
Bloodwork
Nuclear stress test

All came back perfect with flying colors

Cardiolist said basically the calcium score is good to know, but it isnt the end all. He has had patients with 1500 calc, did heart catch, and zero blockages, all calcium was inside walls and no danger. And has had plenty of patients with calc score of zero, and have heart attack in next year. So bottom line, it isnt end all. Calc score is good to know, but it does have its flaws as it cant determine if the calcium is actually blocking an artery or harmless. The soft plaque is the real prob, because that breaking off and blocking is what kills ya, not the hardend plaque

Lot of interesting articles on internet about Vit.K2 and prevention of arterial calcification.Vit K2 activates MGP which helps mobilize calcium out of arteries if already have deposits.
Also helps prevent kidney stones.

My older brother had a calcium score of 800 or more. Dumbass is a ticking timebomb and absolutely refuses to go see the heart doc. Think he's terrified of the heart docs after what all our dad went through with it.

54, healthy, regular in gym (resistance and cardio)
Calcium score zero. Screening was simply an age based thing.

good family history, never have had a lipid issue.

A positive score isn’t the end of the world but you should get a CLEERLY scan and it will tell you exactly where the blockage is and how big of a deal it is.

550- New aortic valve to replace diseased bicuspid aortic valve, ascending aortic aneurysm repair and 2 way bypass......yes it helps to know your calcium score!
