Office work and the dual standards in the workplace..

What’s allowed without a blink of an eye..
Employees who smoke that take 5-6 10-15 min smoke breaks per day.
What isn’t allowed and frowned upon..
Coming back to the office 15 min later on your lunch break because you hit the gym and showered afterwards.
The first group of employees waste an hour smoking on company time (on top of an hour lunch break) while the second group comes in 15 min beyond the standard lunch time; and they probably stay 15 min later each day to offset it.
The smokers do not work an hour extra to offset their smoking habit.

Smokers cost the company in insurance, those that train would save the company money. It's dumb

Get a job where they do not care how long your lunch is. I could not work in place with that kind of scrutiny.
To your point though, smokers should not get any extra breaks and should be held to the same standards.

My job is fine.
I have a friend that works for a big engineering firm that works out at 5am because coming back at 1:15 from hitting the gym (12-1 lunch break) would be frowned upon.
..while the smokers frick off for an hour each day without issue.
I see we have a smoker downvoting this thread.

I would imagine some bosses don't like you to better yourself. Employees that smoke stay on site, and likely pose no threat of leaving the company or branching off.

My boss trains with me so we are 15 minutes late together

I take two 20 mins walks during the day outside and a longer one at lunch. Always get a kick out of walking passed the smoking area. Much fewer people than there would have been 20 years ago. Hard to find many people that smoke anymore.

Not a problem since they banned all tobacco products on the premises a decade ago. Everyone doing the Zyn thing now.

Wait people care about your lunch?

You have nosy people always in other people’s business.

We have an hour allotted lunch break and they're flexible about how we can use it. If I need to leave 30 minutes early, I can take a 30 minute lunch break and it won't effect my hours for the week. We have 1 smoker who works the 9 hours straight with no lunch, but takes 5 minutes every 1-2 hours. So it's a wash. What you said in the OP would piss me off too as a now non smoker

If the CEO of our company ever banned smoking on campus grounds, I would lose no sleep.

People still smoke. They either smoke sparingly or use the vape pens. I’ll smoke once in a blue moon. Like on nights when I’m out with the boys, which hardly ever happens.

Getting breaks in restaurants is the main reason I smoked in college

Sounds like you need to start smoking.

One of my supervisors and I went to the YMCA 2 blocks from our office and we played pickup basketball at lunch each day. On our first joint trip to the gym together we goat there at 11:40, played to about 1:20. On the walk back he told me that as long as he was there playing I’m good as well. Over 75% of the time were on the same pickup team so it worked out awesome. Back in the office we worked just as hard as we played and work was never behind. We were salaried, worked early and late, and got the job done. What a great scenario we had.
He moved to Atlanta and ended up having a massive heart attack after gaining a bunch of weight and not getting to play hardly at all. Sad.
