I have not
I qualified at grandmas in 2023 but timing didn’t work out with birth of my first daughter. I was in 2:40ish shape for the OKC marathon in 2024 but my body gave out on me at mile 16 and ended up going 3:06 (while walking most of the last 5 or so miles) or something like that. Honestly that okc experience killed a lot of my motivation. It was just completely awful.
ETA: also a fun note I had my first D1 signing as a coach this year. My top girl is going to KU. 17:38 5k runner. 12th fastest Kansan girl all time in the event. Sucks she’s gone up against 5 of the top 8 runners in state history (all in our class) during her time with us. Best state finish was 3rd this year but was definitely deserving of a state title.

Controversial take, but you don't owe anyone that explanation. Running for a charity is admirable and takes a ton of work to raise money for. Isn't Boston like $10,000? I'd rather train and qualify over having to raise that kind of money. Plus, you can't just sign up, that shite is competitive for Boston. Congrats! Give that training hell.
I appreciate it. And yes the raise is $10k. I’m not at all embarrassed by being a charity runner over a qualified one. A friend of mine is a qualified runner this year and is an absolute beast - that’ll never be me. But being able to complete a marathon (goal is sub-4hr) and raise a lot of money for a good cause is just fine by me!

That's awesome! Do y'all have high school kids doing mostly threshold work now? It seems like everyone's moved towards that versus the "throw up after workouts" type stuff we used to do

I do a mix. A lot of threshold early on with more and more hard rep based work as the year goes on until we get to the last couple weeks of season. Kansas is unique in that our state meet courses (there’s two locations but the second is just as bad as ours from what I’ve heard) are the hardest courses in the state (insanely hilly) so I kinda have to approach training with preparing them for that both physically and mentally.

Well, good luck! Not that it sounds like you'll need it.
Any idea what your BQ will be? Looking forward to seeing your posts about it, both events would be awesome.

Sorry, bud. A sub 4 IS beast mode. Running a 9 minute mile over 26.2 miles is impressive and puts you in a very unique and small percentage group.

I feel like to safely be in I’ll have to go 2:47. The time on paper is 2:55 but the cut off in what they actually take gets lower and lower every year. This go round I’m just gonna focus on doing just enough to hit that 2:47 mark then if I make it work on going all out again once I’m there. I really feel like if I put together a good training block and don’t do anything dumb during the race I can run 2:35-2:40. Just gotta put it all together.

Also I concur with that. Marathons are hard as hell no matter how fast you run. Just getting to the finish is an accomplishment to be proud of much less going under 4.

I’ve been a fat slob since the birth of my second daughter in august.
i am in the same boat since last November with my second but he is gotten to prime running stroller age so i am starting to get back on it.
Oldest can only tolerate so much in the double runner and i can all tolerate pushing 50lbs for so long.
I've gotten slow as shite because the majority of my runs have been to just to wear the dog out who has also gotten fat eating tossed off the plate food from my youngest. happy with 10 minute miles

Congrats!
How many miles a week do you have your top girls doing freshman year? My daughter, 8th grade, is locked in right now and I'm trying to figure out how to help manage her mileage so that she keeps improving without burning her out.
She's really hoping to qualify for Nike Outdoor Nationals this summer in the 1600. Auto qualifier time is 5:28 and provisional is 5:43. I'm not sure if she can get to the 5:28. I expect her to be mid (hopefully low) 5:30s.

Depends on the girl. That one was getting 45 or so her freshman year if I remember right. Depends on how raw they are coming in. Ones with no experience I build to 35-40. I’m not real big in throwing down a ton of miles in high school. The most I’ll have them do is 55-60 by their senior year and that’s only a select few. I’ve not seen good results from athletes that have run much more than that in terms of performance after high school. Whether that’s running collegiately or just enjoying the sport after they’re done with me.
Sounds like she’s crushing dude! Keep encouraging her! Also if yall wanna move to Andover, Ks that would make me really happy.

That's a lot more than I was thinking. I've been keeping mine at 20 with the thought of building up to 25 throughout track season into the summer and then letting her high school coach take over. Some of her friends that are already freshmen this year I thought said they were only doing 25-30. Her future high school's top 3 went 1,2, and 4 at state but still finished 2nd overall to the team that has won like 8 in a row now. Her friends are determined to end that streak.

If you can get your admin to cough up some NIL dollars we'll listen lol. I'll also need a PE job at the school and I'll be your assistant coach.

This was pre-super shoe era but I loved the bostons in college. Good shoe.

The Boston 12 is solid, firm and snappy ride. Doesn’t feel like it’s as high stacked as it is. Haven’t tried the 13 but have heard it’s not as good.
I fell into CyberMonday frenzy and grabbed some Mizuno Neo Zen’s for $90 yesterday.

Yeah I’ve seen some crazy deals on VF4, AF3, and Adi AP4.
I’m done. Bought some casual shoes, NB 990v6 and Mizuno Wave Rider Beta, new Tecovas boots, and the Mizuno Neo Zen the past 3 days. Oh and still have an unused pair of Cloudmonster Hyper in my garage.
My wife is gonna have some thoughts for sure.

This might be the best part of being divorced for me…no wife to throw shade at the 15 pair of running shoes I have in my closet

I explained to my wife how a pair of Evo SL and Novablasts would help me rotate shoes more often and avoid injury. If you're reading this: love you, honey!
