Yeah the course is very disappointing. It’s THE New Orleans Marathon and half of it is out and back on the Lakefront…awful.
Outside of the CCC and the Saints 5k the city seems hesitant to do any races downtown or in the Quarter. Really sucks and huge missed opportunity. I’m also not sure why, it’s not like they don’t have the resources…we do it for Mardi Gras for 2.5 weeks. My guess is it can be done but is prohibitively expensive for the race promoters.

Do y’all know any good places to run in the BR area, besides the lakes and levee?
Any good dirt/gravel trails around?
I’m in town for the break and looking to find some new spots

just checked the course map for the New Orleans marathon that's returning in 2026....yikes
That’s disappointing. Would’ve been awesome to run down st Charles, magazine and the French Q. The course is very blah

Update on the Vomero Premium. The shoe is phenomenal, and Nike really knocked one out of the park. The shoe is so responsive, the foam is crazy bouncy. If you like a high stack, bouncy shoe, give it a shot. It's replaced my Superblast 2 as my go to daily trainer.

Waiting on these bad boys to arrive:

Haha, you went in the exact opposite direction. I've never tried the minimalistic shoes, but I do like variety. It helps build up the different muscles that aren't engaged and I think helps strengthen weaker areas.
I might have to try a pair like that. Why not add another to my stable of 673 shoes.

I use them as water socks on the river and to do some trail running. I tried street running with them, but they wear way too fast that way.

4 weeks out from my HM, been holding around 40 miles per week, will try to push for more the next couple. Anyone got some training tips as far as workouts and peak mileage? Can’t decide if I should do a hard long run workout this week or next or if it even matters.
Posted on 1/2/26 at 12:15 pm to jordan21210
Decided to do a peak workout today. 2x4 mile with 2:00 recovery, 13.1 miles total. Felt amazing and crushed the workout - third fastest half marathon - averaged maybe 7/mile or a little quicker on the intervals
Trying to determine my A and B goals for the race on 1/24. Last year on not nearly as good of a training block and no sleep the night before I ran 1:37:11. Watch says I can go 1:33. Might set my sights on 1:32:59 and see what happens

It’s been a long time since I last posted but here to report in. I’m running the Walt Disney World Marathon 1/11/26. I know it’s not for everyone and I understand. Having said that, my last marathon was also at WDW in 2019. I set a PW that year very undertrained with 60 degree weather at the start. Finished with a crowd pleasing 6 hour time. First and only time with such a poor showing. Stopped running shortly after and got very unhealthy. I’m 6’-5” and in April of 2024 I topped the scale at 268.5. Between 2019 and 2024 I became a slob with multiple health issues. Iven mentioned them before, but with go over them again. After a round with Covid I ended up in the ER with AFib in 2020, once I got that under control I started c25k and tore my meniscus. Surgery and recovery took forever. Then was diagnosed with fatty liver disease. That was rock bottom! Started just walking and then added running here and there. Well, I’m back to my old running form from 10 years ago. I’m down to 191 as of today!
Marathon training has gone well until I got the flu on Christmas Eve. It kicked my arse!! I’m still dealing with this damn cough but got a few runs in. I was aiming for a 3:30:00 marathon but between the flu and expected race day temps at 62 I don’t see that happening. Revising my goal for a 3:35:00 to 3:59:59. Those race times would be a PR for me. I’ve done Disney twice and the weather has been crap for both (70 and 60 temps). As a back up I’m planning on ramping up for another marathon in March for the Zydeco marathon. I’ll train and wait last minute hoping for better weather. If not better conditions I’ll just run the half. It’s been a hell of a ride over the last two years to get here and have come close to PR’s in the half and 5k this year but just missing them. I’m not sure what I’m really getting at here, but just venting a little about my luck but also trying to be positive about how far I’ve come over the last several months. Going to give it my best and hopefully I have a good day.

I used to love runDisney events, and have done many of them, but the last several years it's been taken over. It's just waves and waves of walkers, 8 wide, no run decorum, no cares, etc.
I support every person that gets active, but it's gotten crazy with the number of walkers in these events now, all dressed up in extravagant costumes.

10.25 this AM of zone 2. 142 HR and a 10:30/mile pace. 1100 feet of climb. Met the wife at Salem’s Diner. Best pancakes and sausage in Bham.

I agree with you. Part of this trip is ping with the in-laws who never been with us. FIL has beat both prostate and kidney cancer over the last year. So, since he’s doing well we are going to make it happen and my BILaws are traveling to meet us for the experience.

Anybody tried bicarb? Is it worth it for a random middle aged man or something best left to the elites? My buddy told me about something called PR Lotion which is basically bicarb absorbed by the skin, wondering if it might be worth a bottle just to see if it helps on workouts/races.
Posted on 1/4/26 at 3:25 pm to RandySavage
Have never heard of the lotion, sounds like snake oil.
Edit: def snake oil, google it. How is a topical bicarb supposed to absorb to your blood? Doesn’t even logically make sense to me.
Bicarb is real and has real benefits, the problem has always been how to ingest it without shitting yourself. To my knowledge, Maurten is one of the only ones to crack it successfully.
To be honest though, outside of doping or natural athletic ability, I don’t think there is a magic bullet for endurance sport performance and most of these things like bicarb, beetroot, codiceps, etc will net very very marginal gains…if anything at all.

Yeah the lotion sounds like a scam, but the maurten version has proven to work. I know pros take it. I'm not sure how much it would work for hobby joggers like us. And even then it's supposed to have maximum benefits in mid distance events like the 800 and 1500.
You could always swallow some baking soda to do a cheap test run. Like jordan said, just be near a bathroom

Now you wait just a got dang minute here, you hear me?
For me personally, beet supplements have been game changers. I suffer from asthma and they make a huge difference in my runs. I can't remember the name of the liquid one I bought at one of the expos, but it was the best I've ever tried. I threw the bottle away and didn't take a pic, but I PR'd a half marathon that day by 17 minutes! I give some credit to that beet juice, I actually felt it when I was breathing. I kick myself for not remembering the name of it. Maybe I'll see it again soon.
Speaking of that, who's in for the Louisiana Marathon in two weeks?

10 miles @ 12:00 pace
Last long run tapering for La marathon.
Plan to run walk it at 12s and use it as a build up run for a 50miler in Feb or March

Nice! Nothing wrong with that. You using the Galloway method?

6 miles tonight. Mostly zone 2 but ran some lactate thresholds. 3 at LT1 and 3 at LT2 1/4 mile distance. Felt great and ran hard. Did 45 mins on the elliptical this AM trying to build zone 1 mileage on this Norwegian bullshite.
