Shoulder Incredibly Weak After Fall

I was out skiing the other day and took a fall directly onto my left shoulder. On a bit of a slope, at a decent rate of speed (15-20 mph, thankfully not a full send of a run).
Hurt pretty bad initially, but was able to ski down. Whole thing hurt for a day or two. Now there isnt much pain, unless I move the shoulder wrong.
My issue is, i cant lift my arm in front of me or move outwards laterally. Yes it hurts, but its not because of pain I cant lift it. I cant apply the strength.
Can bring the arm across my body ok. No bump on my shoulder.
Everything points to some bigly rotator cuff damage, but wouldnt an AC joint speration be way more likely than a rotator cuff tear from trauma? Especially since I didnt outstretch my arm on the fall?
Just seeing if yall might have some insight, even though i see a shoulder expert on Monday.

I separated my right AC some years ago water skiing, had major pain for 3 weeks and wore a sling.
Tore my L rotator cuff and had major pain with that also.
So if you not having much pain, just weakness I have no clue what your injury is.
Just going to have to wait and see what the Dr.says unless someone on here knows more about shoulder injuries than I do (which isn’t much).
If you don’t mind update after you see Dr,I’m curious.

If AC Jr separation you would likely see some separation in the mirror unless it’s swollen.

there is no obvious bump or separation.
I just bring up the AC joint bc my fall would be a near perfect way to separate it. The symptoms dont really match it though.

If you’re still reading the thread, sounds like you could have a slight separation in the joint (from experience w numerous shoulder issues). 1 of 3 things work for my 99% of the time. Doing dips, raising my arms over door frames and stretching, and intentionally sleeping on the shoulder. A medical pro may be able to better explain, but one of those 3 usually work (while also icing up like crazy) and always assumed it depends on position of separation

My curiosity was getting the best of me,found something interesting .
“ Many tears occur in people who don’t experience the pain symptoms associated with tears”
Was news to me,my tear and acquaintances of mine that tear RC’s always mentioned the pain. All my experience’s are anecdotel, never worked in orthaepedics.
Article goes on to mention that weakness almost always occurs.

I’m curious as well. My money is on a rotator cuff tear. The lack of strength is what is most telling to me.

Yeah, Ill let you know what the doctor comes up with this morning.

Small fracture where the rotator cuff meets the bone.
The weakness is due to that. The cuff is in tact.

That sounds better than rotator tendon tear,I suppose.
Does that require surgical repair?
Thanks for the update.

Greater tuberosity fracture.
I imagine they put you in a sling and will advance you to PT ?
Glad you didn't tear anything.

Pretty damn good, jose.
Thats the regime. Fracture is in a bad spot. While not particularly severe, its in a spot where i could pull the piece of bone (and the rotator cuff with it) away from the shoulder.
So immobile for 4-6 weeks until its good and fused together again. Then PT

Me too.
Ill be out hiking 14ers by the fourth. A tear would be waiting till next ski season, which would be torture for me.
4-6 weeks immobile is gonna be a nightmare.
ETA: Thanks for the interest all

Yep that little piece of bone got plucked off in the fall. It will be a pain, but you will get over it. Wear that sling constantly.
I sure hope they showed you how to wear the sling correctly, I get so made when people put them on others wrong.

Oh yeah.
This ortho group operates out of Vail/Summit Co. I got the impression it wasnt the first shoulder after a ski fall this dude had seen.
Set me up right and quick.

Hey I figured so, but you would be surprised how many people do not know how to actually put a sling on someone properly

The clinic at Copper put it on ridiculously. I believe it.
