Alexandria. It grow just fine. Turns into a massive fern bed if you let the spears grow out.
I have one of those square aluminum beds in the back of my garage that I have trouble growing most things in due to lack of water. Thinking of converting the whole thing to asparagus as that is something the wife and i could eat multiple times a week.

yeah I need to get a bed of it going every year we say we will and we never do. Good to hear it’s doing well
Got squashes, tomatillo, Thai basil and bee balm seeds planted, all three beds got more manure and pine straw and a thorough watering. Gotdam it’s nice weather but it is DRY.
made some bed fill and threw out last years leftover wildflower seeds on an empty bed and dug up/potted some dwarf palmetto, trifoliate orange and more maypop volunteers
Still no sproutage on my okra and cantaloupe I might need some new seeds. Last year they sprang right up in a couple of days

It has no bottom. I started the roots in the ground then added the ring later. As the plants got bigger, I added a mixture of raised bed soil and manure slowly over time. Didn't seem to bother the roots to be covered like that.

I usually buy something like Miracle Gro potting mix or the Staygreen potting mix, then add some black cow manure and some perlite. They only stay in that phase for a short time before going into the garden.
Now cucumbers are flowering, pole beans are 4' tall, cantaloupe starting to vine and flower, tomatoes 3' tall and flowering, bell peppers flowering. Lettuce beginning to bolt. Thai basil going nuts, sweet basil slow start. Strawberries bearing fruit, blueberries are loaded, fig tree is disgusted with the cold of winter. Mushrooms producing on and off, had shiitakes the past week.
Hollyhocks starting to bloom, strawflowers 1-1/2 feet tall, nasturtiums getting ready to put on buds, hostas emerging.
Have been perpetually busy raking, mulching, planting, fertilizing lawn, etc. I hope everybody else is having luck so far. We know Pillage is.

Where do you live? Did you not get a freeze?
That set me back weeks, just now recovering

Think I'm gonna pull the trigger and plant. 10 day looks promising with a low of 44 and good chances of rain on two different days.
It's just seed right? Trying to talk myself out of planting too much this year.

Still waiting on Nardello seeds to germinate whilst watching hundreds of jalapenos coming up from last year's discarded peppers.

Have any of y’all’s cucumbers rebounded after the cold weather two weeks ago? They have their true leaves but have been at a stalemate since then. They haven’t grown. I’m thinking about starting them from seed again.

I pulled mine last week they just looked terrible. The Bonnie transplants were on sale so I planted those and now they are pushing true leaves. Last year I waited too long to plant and they didn’t get enough ground time before the heat. Cukes are one of the things we will eat as many as we get so I wasn’t taking any chances

No cukes but our tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes have rebounded. Ended up losing a few peppers but most started leafing back out surprisingly. They looked stripped from the ridiculous wind we got. My son and I finished filling our 2 raised beds for cut flowers for Mrs. Sausage. Thank the Lord I filled them up 3/4 with all the weeds I pulled, winter clippings, and a chopped chinaberry tree. It took 20 bags of mulch and 16 bags of garden soil to top them off. Dahlia tubers went in one. Will rub irrigation to them next weekend.

What's the earliest I can expect the borer moths in CENLA? My Blue Hubbards and Zucchini plants are coming along nicely.
Posted on 3/31/26 at 12:54 pm to AlxTgr
they are like beetlejuice. dont say their name.
Posted on 3/31/26 at 1:50 pm to AlxTgr
The internet will tell you that the adult moths don't usually appear in south Louisiana until June. But I can tell you from experience that that's bullshite. I'm pretty sure they are around year round.

Pretty sure this, and heavy pesticide application, is how pumpkin farms are able to produce.
