My self-propel stopped working about 10 years ago. I’ve been pushing without it since. And in this heat, I take a 10 min break in the middle.

You must have a one horsepower gas powered, never heard anyone come close to saying a gas mowered bogged down

I believe it was a 6.75hp Briggs. Even when brand new it routinely stalled while mowing taller grass. Never used a gas mower my whole life that could eat tall grass without issue. Maybe I wasn't spending enough money on them?

What voltage? If 24v that's like a 1hp gas motor. Not worth a damn. Even 40v is kind of low for a mower.

And battery prieces have increaed crazy since the plandemic, atleast Dewalt and Ego (the brands I use)
Oh now we're holding pandemic inflation against battery tools only?

and no, there not getting cheaper
Battery prices per watt-hour are absolutely getting cheaper. Prices have been dropping precipitously for many years and continue to do so.

If you beleive a battery will last 6 years and give you any reasonable charge, I have a ton of stuff to sell you, please give me your contact info.

I have multiple ego batteries, the oldest is about 5 years old maybe, and they all hold a charge like new.

If you're selling ego batteries I'm buying.

6 years? That’s nothing for a battery that probably only cycles once a week. That’s only like 300ish cycles.

That's what I'm seeing in mine and what seems to be the consensus among real owners on the internet. Doesn't stop the folks who refuse to try them from spouting nonsense about having to replace batteries every couple of years.

40v Kobalt. As long as the grass is short it will do a marginal job, but nothing close to the typical gas-powered self-propelled gas mower. Be glad to sell it to you!

Nah, 40v is a bit weak for yard work. Takes more amps to get power and wears the battery out faster as a result.

True in a way but it needs the power to maintain those RPM while cutting.

That would be a function of horsepower/torque.

Uh huh, horsepower is torque times rpm.

Yep, horsepower = torque x rpm/5252.

Korkstand said "Batteries are getting cheaper"

Greenbean said "No, they are getting more expensive"

Korkstand said "That's the pandemic's fault, everything is getting more expensive"

Korkstand is so full of shite in just about every topic he participates in.

This has nothing to do with my opinion on electric yard tools. I own both gas and electric equipment. I just wanted to point out Korkstand's douchiness for anyone who might have missed it.

Price history since April 2020. Point out where they are getting more expensive. I see the opposite, especially when accounting for inflation, pandemic-induced or otherwise.

I'm one of the least full of shite posters on this entire site, and I bring more facts and data than 99.5% (I made up that figure but I'd lay a large sum of money on it being correct).

I can be a douche at times but I'm rarely full of shite.

The battery mowers don’t have the weight necessary to cut grass well.

On the Ego FB page there are several complaints about this. Some even put bricks on the front to weigh it down.

This is the first time I've ever heard about anyone complain that a lawn mower is too light. This is on par with people on these boards complaining about how they don't like electric mowers because people don't have a carburetor to work on.

This is an awful and idiotic idea. If people have a problem with it being too light, stop running behind the mower in a full sprint.

If there's a problem with cuts, it's a user error mostly by way of having dull blades. Plain and simple.

The guy chiming in with the 40V Kobalt...do not buy less than 56V Ego. I have a 60V array of Greenworks tools and have yet to meet a failure. If I let grass get too thick or wet I can always engage the turbo and mow through it. Greenworks has a steel deck - not plastic.

I have the EGO 56V, 21 in. self propelled, and about the same size area of grass. It never bogs in thick grass, and I have Zoysia it will get thick real fast. I can cut the entire yard on one battery, the 7 amp/hr battery. A single 5 amp/hr in the edger will edge the lawn, front and back, and do the necessary weed eating/trimming. Takes just over an hour to do all that because I bag the cuttings.

My wife, no pics, loves the EGO, and when we double team the yard I have to use the old Toro. Yes it still runs, and is in very good shape, but it is a royal pain to use with a bag, not to mention the maintenance required to keep it running.

ETA: The EGO cuts as good, or better than the Toro.

Have had my Ego mower 5 years now and I haven't noticed the battery dip in the slightest.
Guess I'm screwed when I hit that magic 6 year mark next year.

Bought an EGO mower back in May to replace a 12 year old Honda. My Honda was great. Started on the first pull every time. I have no doubt the engine would have lasted even longer, but the handle had rusted through on both sides. Sure, I could have replaced it, but decided to go electric to match all my other equipment. Two months in and I'm happy with the EGO. Takes me no time at all to mow and there's really no need for the self propel feature, since the mower is so light. The battery has 6 bars on it. I've only ever gotten it down to 5 on a full mow.

I will say that it hasn't been tested with truly thick grass, because we honestly haven't had enough rain to make the grass grow a bunch. But I suspect the EGO mower won't make ruts in the wet yard like the Honda did due to the lighter weight.

The vertical storage of electric mowers is another big plus.
