Shout out to Dr. Robert Dugas, Orthopedic Surgeon:

That puts our roster at 99. We need one more for an even hundred.

That’s not an attack on you! If we have a 105 scholarships, we can only have a 105 players on roster and scholarships are year to year why would we ask a kid to walk on, it’s not like we can save the scholarships for the next year

Because they aren't good enough for a scholarship? I mean no reason to give a scholarship to every player on the 105. Why give one to Emile Picarella when he was a walk on already?

If they are not good enough to get one of your 105 scholarships then why have them on your 105 man roster?

Is there a downside to giving a scholarship? Other than the trivial free-ride?

I don’t know if there is or not my only opinion is that if you have 105 scholarships then give a 105 scholarships and not have a kid walk on I mean it can only help! Both of my kids graduated from Shadow Creek so I will see if my son knows anything about this kid

I dont think you understand, yes, you can now give 105 scholarships out if you truly want to, there's really no advantage to doing that. 85 scholarships was already way more than enough, like 60-70 players even really play in any given season and bunch do next to or literally nothing despite having a scholarship in the old 85 max.
If we continue to have some of the same players who were walk ons previously here, they arent all going to suddenly be given scholarships - again, think of someone like Emile Picarella if he returns from last year. They arent scholarship worthy players here, maybe at McNeese Emile could get a scholarship, but not at LSU. He's not getting a scholarship suddenly to default as the #4-#5 QB on the depth chart always here.
We arent going from 85 to 105 scholarship players overnight, and again, its pretty pointless to do that. We arent going to have 105 scholarship worthy players for the 105 roster probably at any point here so unlikely to give out 105 scholarships when 85 was already too much. These arent "free". You will continue to have guys who are just happy to be beaten up in practice and dress out for a game while never playing....these guys dont get a scholarship for that nor do they need one.
My guess is we'll probably slot around 90-95-ish scholarship guys and 10-15ish walk ons for the 105.
