Why not 3 if we really want them. Screw the portal.

Why sign a multi year deal when you have the power of renegotiation every year with no shortage of suitors if you're a capable player? Many are reportedly multi year but the buyouts aren't really substantial enough to deter or they have renegotiation clauses in them. Agents are legitimately running the markets for now. No different than the coaching market.

They "employment" contracts in the sense that prematurely ending your "employment" would be a breach. There is some push back to try to recover NIL money for that year if a guy leaves early (see Arkansas with Nico's brother), but its unlikely any NIL contract could bind a guy to specific school for multiple years.

The same reason anyone would sign a 3 year deal over a 1 year deal.

That's not the issue.

The issue, is that these contracts are almost completely one sided. There's zero enforcement that can be done from a football standpoint. We are just starting to see what, if anything, can be done from a civil liability standpoint (Georgia).
