Big takeaway from Saturday night's game. Concerning underrated, below the radar...

...Louisiana players. What that game against Nicholls showed if nothing else is with good evaluations and proper coaching, those under the radar players, especially from La., can in fact play good football. Let the coaches find these players, develop them, and surround them with the elite guys that everyone lusts for and we just may have something.

Roster increasing to 105-player limit will be a huge benefit for LSU

That isn't a roster increase, it's a scholarship increase and a roster decrease.
the 85 scholarships limit increases to 105 scholarships
The 120 man roster limit decreases to 105 roster limit.
Still, it does help to pull in marginal recruits. Playing time will still be a factor for guys on the bubble, though.

Good info, but an argument could be made having your scholarship total increased outweighs having the roster decreased.
I know walk-on stories happen from time to time, but I’m willing to bet a lot of those underrated 2-3 star guys are still getting offers, whether they come from powerhouse schools or not.

I believe we agree.

Most walk-on stories are about guys who would have had a scholarship at a different school but wanted to go to a bigger school like LSU. A lot of those guys would have gotten the bigger school scholarship under to 105 limit, anyway.

LSU had two guys WalkOn for football, the only two from their class to finish and graduate. Dr. Mike Blanchard and Brett Bech. Now, this was in the early 90's.

Do you think either of them would have gotten a scholarship at a school like McNeese, La Tech, or USL?

you have to realize 1)lsu would still never recruit a player like Guggenheim and 2)Guggenheim would never come to LSU because he would never play at LSU

Next time I talk with them, I'll ask. Dr Blanchard was always going to Medical School. He's a great Orthopedic Surgeon. Brett, made it into the NFL. Not many WalkOns make it into the NFL. I know both had some offers, but both wanted to play at LSU. I do see Brett's brother Blain every now and then. He too was a WalkOn at LSU.
Too add, the Bech's brothers have a sister, Brenna, she was the first-ever signee for the LSU women’s soccer program in 1995.

Looks just like many of the Running Backs from John Curtis over the years. A little lighter version of Jacob Hester.

That is some cool stuff. I think it is possible, maybe even probable, that those guys get a scholarship to LSU if there are 105 instead of 85 to give. That is kind of what I am saying. Walkons at LSU-caliber schools are usually guys who are just under the threshold with 85 and likely 105 scholarship-level players. Guys who are willing to take a chance on themself and have some means of covering tuition outside of an athletic scholarship, one that is not an NCAA violation or wouldn't be considered a counter against LSU's Scholarship total.

Agree, all too often we've seen a kid wait till signing day, to sign with LSU. One player signs at another school, LSU has one scholarship to give, they get it.

If anyone watched last weeks games they saw many teams struggle
against lesser opponents.ND lost,Ala took and 3 1/2 quarters to beat ucf.
OK had to fight HOU etc.We forget how much EMOTION plays into the
game of football. All of those teams had huge openers and were playing
lightweights who they thought they could walk through the games. These
kids are 17-21 2 years old who aren`t fully matured so to expect them to
be emotionally high for every game is pie in the sky.BKs teams have a
history of getting better as the season goes on.
