Well for one we’ve been told ad nauseam that the players aren’t employees.

At most companies there is not a very limited playing season and an even more limited training season.
To compare the these athletes to “normal” employees is comparing apples to bowling balls. The relationship is different and the business in which they’re involved is different.
All major sports originations already know this and put up guardrails and restrictions on when and what management and players can do.
If the NFL did what colleges are doing it would kill the sport…..
And make no mistake, if similar guardrails and restrictions are not introduced in college it will kill college sports.
