As much as I would love him at LSU, he did sign a legal binding agreement. If he gets out of that contract then all contracts are open to be null and void. College football needs a commissioner.

Yea, it feels like it's much too late for them to try and patch that relationship up. Maybe if Washington didn't make a public shite show of it, but they chose to make all the public. It feels like that relationship is over with.

What prevents another school signing an NIL deal with him?

What would be interesting is if he ended up at another B1G school.

SEC commissioner is B10 commissioner’s lap dog so don’t expect his balls to drop on this.

Yeah, pretty sure that will not hold up in court. You cannot prevent movement of a player within the NCAA permitted guidelines. But sure, some smart lawyers got paid a lot to put that unenforceable clause in writing.

Every limitation on player movement that has gone to court since the portal was implemented has been struck down.

The SEC doesn't give a damn about big 10 templates. We will do whatever we want to do and tie it up in court for the next 5 years while Williams becomes the next great Tiger QB
Yep. Regardless of what others think, the SEC needs LSU to be good. They have been getting their asses handed to them in the playoffs recently. A Lane Kiffin led Louisiana team is their best bet outside of Kirby's UGA right now.

Deboer will at best keep Bama relevant. Sark, even with Texas money, can't get over the hump.TAMU's claim to fame this year was beating ND by 1 point and an overrated Mizzu team. Other than that, beat a bunch of chumps (LSU included). I like what Venables is doing, but he hasn't put the offense and defense together in the same year since he's been there. We don't need one offs like Ole Miss. We need consistent elite teams.

As one individual commented earlier. Is he in class?....You can drop out I believe entirely in first week if he is serious about playing at LSU.

So he signed. It's the transfer portal. This is the wild wild west. No rules anywhere.

Sounds like it wasn’t legally binding…

Williams signed a one-year rev-share agreement with UW worth about $4M.

The agreement is a Big Ten template document used by all league members and built for situations like this.

The agreement (1) prohibits a player from entering the portal once signed (this is why UW is refusing to enter his name into the portal) and (2) prohibits the player’s NIL rights to be used by any other school, though the player can sign outside marketing agreements.
How much is the stipulated damages clause? It has to be less than the stated rate of $4M. Washington can sign a different QB.

With UW refusing to enter Williams’ name into the portal, he is not permitted to hold conversations with other programs.

UW officials suspect that Williams has already held conversations with other programs and the school plans to submit any tampering evidence to the league and NCAA.

LSU is believed to be the school most interested in Williams.
Pretty inflammatory coupling. I've seen less accusatory criminal indictments.

Won't stop him from playing.. similar situation to Miami Wisconsin and that player will be starting for Miami vs Ole miss.. my concern is if Oregons QB declares and lanning goes to Phil Knight and says we got to have him..

Did this hold up when that DB left Nebraska for Miami? I know he’s currently on the Miami roster even though he had a rev sharing agreement with Nebraska

Yep. The IRS loves going after companies for misclassifying employees as 1099..

Ultimately there are way more ways out of the contract than there are to make it enforceable.

it dumb to draw parallels to this to non-competes which are largely unenforceable?

Not a lawyer but that's how I see it

Mam has a right to earn a living

Hard to show damages - not a lawyer but courts going to be on the side of some kid trying to earn live changing money

I just want to know what kind of wizardry Lane is using to get these top portal receivers to sign without a single scholarship quarterback on the roster. That alone is absolutely amazing.
