Still haven't seen anything that would lede me to believe this is an official visit. Actually, plenty of stuff out there saying this is an unofficial along with his unofficial to Vandy this week.

I know that Coach Kragthorpe has done an excellent job recruiting Gunner Kiel. The family trusts him and likes everything they've heard. I know they're very much looking forward to getting down to LSU on Friday morning and checking everything out. They fly back home early Saturday morning.

I do think Notre Dame is the team to beat for Kiel, but he's obviously evaluating all other options. Perhaps LSU blows him away tomorrow. They're not just going down there for a free trip. They're paying their own way so there is legit interest.

For Gunner, I know it's going to be important to him to see how he fits in with the type of guys on the team. Not sure if LSU will have an opportunity to show that to him one way or the other on this trip. For them, I think they just want to show him enough to pique his interest to get him back on campus.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gunner still took an official visit or two, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he pulled the trigger soon. Perhaps he takes a visit to Arkansas as well. Another school could emerge as well. Notre Dame, LSU, Arkansas and Vanderbilt are not the only four programs the Kiel camp is talking with, but I do think those four have moved ahead of the rest with the Irish in the lead.

Man thats fricking hilarious, how did you come up woth such an original punch line like that? And then laughing so hard at your own joke? That makes me know its ok to laugh and that its really funny.

Most of what Wiltfong says is absolutely true and he's a good analyst but I am not convinced he really knows anything more than the rest of us. For one he has been very dismissive of any Kiel/LSU talk until now because he can't dismiss the fact that Kiel is visiting Baton Rouge. Second, nothing in that blurb is news to people that do research. A lot of us could have written that blurb and make ourselves look like an expert. There's nothing new or exclusive in that. Everyone keeps saying ND is the big leader and clear favorite, which is true, but one caveat to that is that ND is the only school he's visited since his decommitment. Very hard to not be the leader when you're the only school to get a visit. Also the ties to ND his family has makes most of these "experts" assume that he is a lock for ND. If those ties were that strong then he would have commited to ND in the 1st place. I don't care that people say that ND wasn't planning to take a qb because some of that is absolutely untrue. They were very big in the Maty Mauk recruitment early. They likely decided to forego a qb this class because they missed on all the top guys on their board. I personally think Kiel is a longshot for LSU but to dismiss us after he visits would be a huge mistake. 2 things that should be pretty well accepted nationally is that LSU is very impressive to recruits and that Les is pretty damn good as a recruiter especially with the parents. Kiel actually visiting LSU on his dime has to be worth at least another 10-15 percentage points. My guess pre visit is about 25% chance of landing. Our success on the field this year, great influence of Les and our program as a whole gives us at least that much of a chance.

mauk was always the conditional offer guy, which is why he chose else where.

ND wanted gunner kiel and cyler miles from day one.

also, dayne crists pending transfer next year opens up more room on the depth chart.

If it's down to LSU and ND, why is he going to Vanderbilt Saturday? It's an unofficial too btw.

Why is he going to Vanderbilt Saturday when they're playing at Wake Forest?

I don't think he is. From what I've read he already visited Vandy earlier this week, and is finishing out his Thanksgiving break with LSU.
