Perhaps, but if you're an LSU fan you'd rather him at A&M than UF. I read that Miles sent him a knee-jerk offer to get him away from A&M and to give LSU time to evaluate him. A&M then told him he couldn't take visits while committed.. Kid decommits from A&M and runs the 4.74 and both A&M and LSU have been slow playing him ever since.

He sure looks terrible on film.

I guess if that's what A&M and LSU leftovers are like, UF will continue to take them. Those same type of leftovers have UF ranked ahead of A&M and LSU currently in recruiting.

I kept hearing everyone say you can't get a four star or five star [prospects] out of southern Louisiana, so that fueled me a lot because I don't want to be like everyone else

That comment honestly doesn't make much sense. Basing your college decision on "people think" is pretty dumb.

A more likely explanation is that the kid had his heart set on leaving the state from the beginning (the signs were there), and he is now justifying that decision to himself and everyone else.

A&M and Clemson have been really high on Phillips list for a while. Sounds to me like this kid just wants to leave the State. LSU still has plenty of big fish to go after. One thing I found interesting is that UF has been in contact with him for a few months and he didn't say anything about them in interviews. Also, nobody knew he was even taking an unofficial to UF. Sounds to me like the family just wanted to keep it on the DL.

I like him a lot and it will hurt ME if he signs elsewhere. He is a great tackler and a great pass rusher. As I stated in another thread I haven't seen much film on him dropping into coverage but he can hit and wraps up when he tackles and regardless if his 40 times he can rush the passer very well on film. I've stated it many times and I will continue too that I think this one hurts and I will be very happy if (hopefully when) he switches back.

No one said he is an LSU leftover. But it has been said on multiple occasions that he has no looked good in pass coverage drills at combines and camps, and he did indeed run a 4.74 at 200 pounds. He is a great pass rusher, but at this point thats all he looks like he is. He will be a perfect Jack for you guys though, if all he has to do is get after the QB. He definately needs work in coverage and dropping back, and this is something that you usually say for guys who are big 250 pound pass rushers, not 200 pound guys

I'm not aware of A&M backing off of him post his decommit. He seemed to be in love with every school he visited post decommit.

I dont and no one on here doesnt know if A&M or LSU backed off of him at any point in time. Me personally, Im just saying he has struggles with speed and pass coverage. And at 200 pounds, I just dont see him being a better prospect than a Otha Peters or a Kwon Alexander, guys who we are actively pursuing as far as a 4-3 OLB goes.

The A&M rivals site is reporting that both A&M and LSU backed off after the 40 time.

I don't think the kid has any idea what he wants to do.

I had forgotten about this linked article: Lo Phillips & Trevon Stewart recruiting for Clemson

quote:

Defensive back Trevon Stewart and linebacker Lorenzo Phillips of Patterson High School have both decided that Clemson is the place they want to be – Philliips has already backed out on an earlier commitment to Texas A&M – and will treat their attendance at Clemson’s camp in June as essentially a tryout camp.

quote:

“I wanted to see a lot more,” he (Phillips) said. “I felt like I let my emotions take over, just based on seeing two colleges. I sat down with my family and talked about it, and they said go and take other visits. I can always commit back to them if I need or want to. I want to visit a couple of more schools, but I’m hoping Clemson will offer and if they do, it’s a done deal.”

It was mentioned in multiple articles and not a big secret. He wants to get away and is easily influenced, good luck to him.

This. Devall is an overall better prospect at LB. I hope we land him.

Yeah Bama fans seem pretty convinced that Collins silently committed to them.
