I know everyone is giving you grief about Chambliss and his eligibility, but he has petitioned for an extra year. He redshirted twice at Ferris St. ‘21 regular redshirt and ‘22 medical redshirt. I don’t have a link to the interview and don’t know if the interview was on radio or TV, but Dusty Dvoracek mentioned on his radio show that he had interviewed him at some point. He also said Chambliss felt pretty confident he would be granted the extra year.

He didn't go to JUCO BUT he only appeared in 2 games his FR season at Ferris State (2022). I guess he is listed as a SR now because he didn't redshirt but he qualified. 4 is the limit to still RS...he only played in 2. Guess FS didn't think he was worth a RS.

Out of eligibility. Do a little homework, eh?
His first year, he was granted a Medical Redshirt. He will apply for the extra season and probably be granted 1 more year due to the Medical Redshirt his first year.

Thank you. This helps. But you mention he redshirted at Ferris St. in ‘21, but someone on the 1st page said D2 didn’t allow redshirts until this year. So, was that new rule written to just be moving forward, or did it have language in it grandfathering in the guys still in college that it would apply to.
I guess not, if he’s having to appeal it. But with everything else that makes it to the courts regarding eligibility since the COVID clusterfrick siding with the player, I would imagine he will win. (And Lester, you’re too smart to be speaking in such absolutes regarding eligibility in 2025. Come on.)
Especially since it’s inline with regular D1 rules that were in place even before COVID. Plenty of guys got 6 years (4 playing, a regular redshirt, and a medical redshirt). The medical ones did always seem a bit arbitrary, though. Like there was no hard line of how much you could play and still get one. At least a known one anyway. Maybe the significance of each injury had to be evaluated as well. Like maybe the hard line was 3 games, but if you were a starting QB who got benched after an 0-3 start, you couldn’t sprain an ankle and try to claim it as season ending and you couldn’t come back. They couldn’t reward a shite start and shite play with a free reset.
So, when did Chambliss get hurt in ‘22, what was the injury, and how much had he played? Regular redshirt/medical redshirt, doesn’t matter until somebody wants that 6th year. So nobody may have even really investigated and ruled, because it was likely to never matter until recently.

This makes sense and makes me believe he’s likely to get it. Or at least Lane convinced him he was. I was surprised to learn in the past week or 2 that he was going to Rutgers(or Temple?) to be their starter and for like $350k. Why would he go to Ole Miss instead to be the backup in his last year of eligibility? Unless Lane and Ole Miss paid him so much more than $350 to make it with his while? Which, you’d think, would have to at least be $500 or more. And why would Ole Miss pay him that when best case scenario at the time
was he doesn’t ever start? Both sides thinking there was a good chance he will be granted that extra year in ‘26 makes more sense.
Unless that’s the going rate for QB insurance policies. I think we paid MVB a few hundred grand, but he still had 4 years to play 3, so that’s a completely different scenario.
Speaking of MVB, we thinking he’s back next year? He’s said he wants to, and he has to know we’re still gonna have to add a couple more. I think he’s got enough skills that Lane could worth with to be worth keeping around as a #2 or #3 next year. I think he’s got enough for Lane to eventually turn into a pretty good 1. But at what cost? We paying a guy we hope is the #3 next year as much as we did this year? Would he take it or does he want a bump?
I think we should keep him as long as it’s for close to the same money. He’s already here, there’s still gonna be plenty of people around who can vouch for his character/worth ethic (if he doesn’t have that, this conversation is moot), and it takes a lot less work to keep somebody where they are than to identify and get somebody from somewhere else. I’d rather that effort and focus be spent on finding the best #1 we can get.

He moves well for being 6'5" 220+
He is a passer not really a dual threat. I dont think his high school offense asked him to run much.

Ferris St has their historical rosters still on their site, and they list him as a RSFr in 2022.
He is on the 2021 Roster(6'1" 176lbs) and was not even assigned a number.
He was 2020 high school graduate.
Pavia's lawsuit was kinda bullshite but I guess D2 can work under the same argument as Pavia's JUCO designation .
