If that's correct the guy he blocks better not even sniff the qb all season.

A proven D1 QB like Leavitt, I understand paying 4-5 million but for an elite offensive lineman that's crazy.

It's not sustainable. Not even for Oregon or Miami. At some point all the schools are going to burn their donors out if this is not fixed. It's not an LSU problem exclusive to them though.

How is this sustainable for even the richest boosters to keep doing end year out?

It is sustainable if you're getting ROI

this is chump change for a multi-billionaire

4-5MM is not chump change to billionaires.

That is substantial even if they can easily afford it. Billionaires are cheap with 4-5MM on even money making ventures, this is only a loss with zero payback.

Don’t trivialize how much money that is.

Man 5 Million for a position that is typically very violent and prone to injuries resulting in sitting out multiple games. I dont know.....

Everyone doesn't make choices based on monetary or direct return. I gave money to the Children's Miracle Network, and I never expected one of the kids to come wash the car or mow the lawn.

They get access to the coaches and team, the sense of being part of tradition and a championship run etc. I'm sure it is different for each donor. But the people funding the large part of this won't miss the money and can't bring it with them when they die so it really doesn't matter to them the way money does to the average fan.

Not my money, but insane if true. Especially, if he ends up blowing out a knee or has some other significant injury.
It's certainly a risk, but if there's any position that is worth that risk, LT is one of them.

Same, I know the money is probably sourced specifically for Seaton (and doesn’t significantly affect next year’s budget), but imagine boosters agreeing to pay this for Seaton and he gets injured or the team never gels and misses the playoffs.

Good luck trying to go back to that well.

No but the point remains. To the people involved $5 million is nothing.

Is he really worth 7 million? Can we get a good LT that won't break the bank? I have a feeling that he is not a good investment.

are you comfortable with the coaches making their money, or the conferences/schools pulling in their share, or the TV networks making their money, or the announcers, etc...

Lots of music artists became millionaires are very young ages...I will never been uncomfortable with college athletes making millions when others in the industry make millions...
