Washington is a great example as the top athlete on 247 but he's also a horrible example because he's not been mentioned, or recruited as anything other than a TE in over a year. They most likely will change him to TE for the final rankings. Will make he and Gilbert quite the battle for top TE in the class. Btw Gilbert could just as easily he listed as an athlete. Quite a few schools early on actually liked him as an edge guy on defense.
Most I see usually end up as wrs or dbs like others said.
Russell Sheppard should've been listed as an athlete but some pigeonholed him to qb. Mostly because he was adamant about playing it.

it is a weird category to have and one I wish they would remove. But to answer the question, it of course depends on the size of the so called "athlete". A small player it will be DB/WR. Little bigger and RB/LB. Kind of big will be DE/TE. Really big guys will be between OL/DL. Of course it depends on what position it was they played in high school. An athletic QB could also be a WR/DB. Sometimes a RB could also play WR. But if someone played DL in high school, they could be viewed as more of an OL in college. With Jacoby Stevens it was WR/DB/LB.
I really don't see why you started this thread as it is pretty much self explanatory. Anyone should be able to figure this out with out starting a thread to ask the question if you would have just given it a half second of thought. I get it though. This board can be monotonous with nothing new being said, so why not start a thread

Darrel Williams was listed as an athlete on some sites. Devin White also. Russell Sheppard too. Bama usually gets one of these every year.
I posted earlier about Sheppard based only on 24/7 Didn't think to check other services. Thanks for making me think of that.
Sheppard was listed as a Dual Threat QB on 247 and Rivals but an ATH on ESPN.
Devin White as a RB on 247, a FB on Rivals, and an ATH on ESPN.
Williams was an Athlete on 47, RB on Rivals and ESPN.

Spencer Ware was a 5* ATH that mostly played RB for LSU. Think he played a bit of QB in HS and I think LSU used him in a couple wild cat packages.
DB/RB/WR are where most end up, but it ultimately depends on their size and skillset. Bigger guys could end up at TE/LB/DE. Whether they are a WR/DB depends on if they can catch. etc

Other than DL most players in today's modern defense are athletes with cover skills rush skills they are put all over the field.
