When you recruit a kid out of high school there's always a chance that he's not really up to the competition once the boys get bigger. If everybody's just really chasing a Payday anyway why not abandon High School recruiting entirely and just Chase everybody that looks half decent once they show up somewhere else? Just outbid everybody for those guys! Okay maybe you don't have to abandon High School entirely but Reserve that pretty much only for guys that are like in the top 5%. Recruiting a developmental player at a high school seems like a complete fricking waste of time

No I don't blame the high school kids were chasing the money. It would be unreasonable to expect them not to. I mean shite there's a reason that even in the NFL you don't have 100% free agency. But as long as we're going to have 100% free agency you might as well only Chase proven Commodities at this point

That's happening to some degree in basketball. Football rosters are still probably too big for HS recruiting to fully be abandoned.

Rick Pitino said this past season that he doesn't see himself ever going into a HS kid's living room to "recruit" him again. He'll just go straight to the negotiating table with transfers

You build a roster through recruiting. You plug holes through the transfer portal.

Programs will manage NIL similar to how NFL teams manage the draft and salary cap. There’s no reason to go into a panic over de commits anymore with what is essentially free agency. Any holes we have in the roster can easily be filled.

They need contracts. You sign a 3 year deal for the money and you have to fulfill your obligations of the contract. That will stop all the bouncing around
