Right back at you! We knew it was coming. I lost a brother a little over 13 years ago, so it wasn't my first rodeo. I just miss them. All of that and finally having kids changed my perception of life. It's all just one day at a time.

Your story hits close to home, only I was able to get to & through LSU from a poor little MS town by the grace of God & student loans, grants, partial scholarship & working my a** off in summers to pay for it all.

Wouldn’t have had it any other way.

One more thing…Geaux to Hell OM!

I went to Mississippi State from Jena. They gave me a better ride. Then, I went to LSU later on. My family keeps an English Bulldog, but we're all Tigers. HAHA!

I damn sure don't like Ole Miss!! One of my cousins went there, and a friend from high school went there too.
My mom's side of the family is rooted between Hattiesburg and Jackson.

State College was my 2nd choice for an engineering career, but the 4 hr. drive each way to Starkvegas & being in a dry county like I grew up in were too much to overcome.

Had a mini fridge in my LSU dorm room with cheap beer whenever I wanted—glorious.

At least we both were smart enough to stay out of Oxford!

ETA: being from Jena, you probably spent sone quality time at Natchez Under the Hill like I did, pretty easy drive for me from Amite Coubty.

well it wasn't very expensive back then. Out of state tuition was $200 a year and credit hours were $35 each. Our LSU ID got us in every sporting event on campus for free.....so I'm a little confused as to why LSU was considered way too expensive.

My first semester tuition was under $ 90, actually it was $81. Room and board $90 a month. Minimum wage on campus was $1 an hour but you could only work 20 hours a week so you had to come up with $20 some damn where to cover the rest of room/board.

An area hospital paid $15 a pint for blood but you could only donate every 6 weeks. Unless of course you gave a fake name and lied about not having any I. D. which was pretty common.

We considered LSu a dream. Transportation was an issue for us poor north LA rednecks. Gas was 30 something cents per gallon not the 30 cents was hard to come by but it didn’t matter because we had no car. A girl the year before me went to LSU but got killed in a car accident coming home one weekend. That scared some parents off from allowing their kids to venture away. One guy from my class went but he was such a sheltered kid his first semester he flunked everything after discovering beer, women, and the ability to sleep late and skip class. He had been a 4.0 student, salutatorian, and was in church before the doors opened.

None of us had a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. But Viet Nam was hot and heavy so school was the ticket out. Unfortunately my two brothers dropped out and got a draft notice like clockwork. One joined the Army and a year later one joined the navy thinking it would keep him out of Viet Nam. Wrong. Ended up getting wounded there twice.

Long drawn out post but being older than the rest of yall I’m pulling senior posting status!!!!
