quote:Do you know the date of original construction for the other SEC stadiums? Because if you do, I'm confused as to what you think constitutes "new."
With Bama, Tenn and everyone else having really amazing new state of the art stadiums
I can't even remember the last time any SEC school built a new football stadium. Bryant-Denny, Neyland, Jordan-Hare, Ben Hill Griffin, Vaught-Hemingway; the Tigers have been playing at these stadiums for as long as I can remember.
ETA: A couple of other guys have posted the numbers, and as I suspected there are no "new" stadiums in the SEC. I'm not sure why you thought those places were so new, but it really is the kind of thing you should check out first before posting something as dramatic as questioning whether we should tear down Tiger Stadium. Unless the dramatic inflamatory was all you were after in the first place, of course.

+1
In fact, the "newest" SEC football stadium is Vanderbilt's, and even there they blew up the old stadium and replaced it with a new stadium.

B/D at Bama certainly isn't new. Why do you think Alabama used to play all of their home games at Legion Field? B/D even in the early eighties was a very small bowl. They did a fantastic job of adding on to it and rennovating it to the point that it looks new. Please get your facts straight before you start posts about certain SEC schools having new stadiums. B/D isn't new by any means.

There seems to be alot of trouble makers on this board. Changing of uniforms, changing of helmets, removing the soil for fake high school turf etc.... I know people like to argue, and me being one of them, It might just be best to ignore these kids and go on with we know is the GREATNESS OF LSU AND TIGER STADIUM!!!!!!
Too long but thought I would inject this for the hell of it.

NO!
Renovate: clean up the outside, clean up the old dorms and Tiger Stadium is as fine as any stadium in the SEC. Besides, the 'kids' do look at the history.
Back in the day, 'Bama played most of their games in B'ham because the on campus stadium was small and crappy. They didn't replace it...only updated it.
Once the other construction projects TAF is funding are finished, it'll free up money to take care of Tiger Stadium. And while it may be a "public institution" the Athletic Dept pays for all the construction.

Face it, big time recruits look at things like this.
The players/recruits never see the things that are "wrong" with Tiger Stadium. They don't go to the pisser or the concession stand during the game. They don't sit in old-arse bleachers for 4 hours. They probably don't care about how bad the old windows of the dorms look. The players/recruits see just the first-rate stuff...the locker room, the field, and the fans.

Alabama is the only stadium that can DEF be said is nicer than Tiger Stadium.
You're insane. I realize you've probably never seen RRS stadium since for some odd reason we play our home game against you guys in Little Rock, but our real home stadium is without peer in the SEC. End of story.

I'm gonna pretend like I didn't read this question. New Tiger Stadium? Any talk of that sort is blasphemy!

NO your a dumbass! Tiger Stadium is an icon to the state of Louisiana!
Posted on 7/28/09 at 8:02 am to KING JAMES
I just have to agree with everyone and say there is no way we could build a new Tiger Stadium, it wouldn't feel right being in a new one

Schools that will never have a new stadium LSU, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Penn State,Georgia, Arburn, Arizona State, Washington. NCAA football is about tradition! They don't want to turn it into the NFL.
Posted on 7/28/09 at 8:42 am to Celtic Tiger
Some of these people on this thread have no sense of tradition and it's quite sad.
Tear down Tiger Stadium. serious face lift... I just don't see it, and another thing, you honestly think recruits look on the outside of the stadium and say hell no, this sh*t too old. What they look at are locker rooms, weight rooms, they go to games and feel what its like to play in one of the best stadiums in the NCAA.

Yankee Stadium was torn down because they could not renovate it in such a manner so as to incorporate suites and the like. Plus, and let's be honest...professional stadiums cater to s different fan than college. they day an LSU fan suggests that they are unhappy with the venue because it's not "hi-tech" enough is the day that fan needs a swift kick to the gonads.

Glad you all had fun commenting. I really would actually hate to see TS torn down. Its just need to be renovated.
This thread was for shits and giggles during a slow preseason, more than anything else.
But thanks for playing!
Long live TS!!

You REALLY don't know what you're talking about. Besides needing a new sound system in TS, I'd say it is no less than on par with most of the league.

TS is right up there with the Roman Coliseum, and it is still standing.
This part is NOT for shits and giggles ------ those who want to make college football like the NFL can just simply go screw with the NFL. Leave the college game as the college game, for those of us who actually went to and finished college, and have some appreciation of the college game.

TS is a selling point but not a determining factor.
When it's empty it may be a selling point, but on a Saturday Night, I think that "selling point" tips the scale in our favor.
I personally like the older look of the stadium, that being said, it should be renovated to clean it up (the bowl) but the architectural integrity of the "look" of the stadium should be kept.
It just looks like a place more steeped in history than BDS IMO.
Never, never, NEVER should TS be torn down.
