I don’t like Mark Jones anymore than what’s already been mentioned. But to be fair, the guy has been at ESPN for decades, before anyone knew what the hell DEI was. That’s like saying Clarence Thomas was a DEI pick. Do we just yell “DEI!” anytime we see a black guy do anything now?

Here? Are you really surprised? I’m not one to throw the word around, but the rant is racist as fuk.

Also yes, that tv crew was perhaps the worst I’ve ever seen.

The crew was really bad, but there are so many racially tinged comments here, that in the unlikely event ESPM Mgmt. read the thread, they would likely dismiss it as simply that.
But these guys were ill-prepared and were simply not good. And while Roddy Jones likely didn't have the self awareness to know how biased his commentary was, it really distracted from everything he tried to say. And what he was trying to say was often not very clear.
I don't know how ESPN evaluates performances, but it would be interesting to see whether the network truly values balance and insight among its commentators.

Not nearly as racist as the play by play guy from last night.

No there's not.

Criticism of people who happen to be a certain race isn't racism.

Only people who are racist see racism in everything.

I do agree that ESPN would see racism.

For the umpteenth time . . . .

Turn down the TV sound.
Turn on the radio (or connect via the LSUsports.net website).
Sync the radio play-by-play with your TV live stream.

The radio broadcast team of Chris Blair, Jacob Hester and Gordy Rush is light years superior to whatever fourth-level ESPN crew is assigned to the game.

Hester has fresh insights and is totally on point with his preparation. Gordy gives you timely updates on injuries and whatever else is happening on the LSU sideline.

I solve that problem by muting the sound and listening to Chris Blair.

Agreed, but that racism is just as prevelant among the darker complected community as it is the lighter one on here.

I don’t know how much ESPN actually cares about evaluating commentary — really seems like a “who you know” job all around… but you’re right about the crew.

They barely seemed to know the rules most of the time & misrepresented what was happening on the field several times.

You’re also correct about the “off-color” shite from the board. Like bro it’s obviously a B-crew. Honestly tf does race have to do with anything at all here?

This isn’t the first TV crew the board has disliked, but I guess since it was two black guys ppl are more upset about that.

No, not just once but they wouldn't let that go "ha ha he must have forgotten he was on the field" and "what a clean hit" and "you come to play football you better have your head on a swivel" the entire time Daniels is lying on the field with coaches checking to see if he's ok

Yea. I mean it's true you've got to remember you're still playing, but with the guy still down with an unknown injury, it'd be best to not laugh about it a THIRD and fourth time.

Worst announcers I’ve ever heard in any game I’ve ever watched. You would think it was Arkansas coaches.

I’m tempted to send an email to ESPN. We should light them up. You have to at least seem objective even if you have disdain for the team your calling.

In addition to everything you listed, they kept going on about targeting when it clearly wasn't targeting. And even after the officials said its not targeting they continued to disagree. And immediately after that started campaigning for a PI on the very next play.

And on top of everything, the continuous use of big words like ubiquitous and deleterious was just annoying. These were the worst announcers I think I've ever experienced.

Are you serious dude? Have you read the thread at all?

“DEI” from this board in this context is implying they were both hired because they are black. Race had nothing to do with the discussion until the board went there because some people here are… well, racist.

That is not “criticism of people who happen to be a certain race” — It’s specifically injecting race because “two black guys” …it’s offensive even to people who agree that they were horrible.

The play by play guy is racist. I don’t who said anything about CJ Daniels, I had the sound off for large parts of the game. But the play by play guy hates white people despite being half white and married to a white woman.

I would need some context I’m just going off of what was called in the game. The worst thing he did was blame CJ Daniels for getting targeted & laugh at the replay when he was lying on the field being looked at by trainers.
