I have a couple that I'm not sure I can recollect completely...

In one fall practice, Hallman told a few of the bigger guys on the team to "whip the arse" of a highly touted freshman to show him his place. Now, this is a kid who was just recruited to LSU by Hallman. Unreal.

The other is a story about how outside of the NCAA practice times, in the summer I believe, Hallman had the windows in an old building sealed up and had his team wrestling and fighting with no AC.

That sounds all awesomely gladiator-like, but it was illegal and the guy who recounted the story said nobody saw the value in what they were doing that day. Like it was just for his enjoyment.

As fan day 1991 was ending Curley's autograph line was finally dying out so my dad and I thought we'd try to catch him. He was furiously trying to get in a few final autographs and when we got closer to him he finally quit and yelled "I'll mail it to you!"

In Hallman's defense, he played at A&M for Gene Stallings. Stallings was one of Bear Bryant's Junction Boys.

So whatever Hallman did, it probably pales in comparison to what the Junction Boys went through. I would say it's highly likely the Junction Boys influenced Curley's mindset with whatever he was attempting to do that day.

But since Curley was a huge flop as opposed to the legend of Bear Bryant or success of Stallings, we can excoriate him for using similar tactics.

That said, I did hear some tales of Curley drunkily creeping on college girls during my days as an undergrad. Something about either being a peeping tom or trying to break in an apartment. I could be confusing those rumors with what Cecil the Diesel actually did. Lots of wild rumors flying around in the 90s. Crazy Days at LSU, part deux.

Saw him in the lobby of the hotel the morning of a game against Georgia. I'm almost sure it was his 1st game as the LSU head coach. I shook his hand - it was like a wet sponge . I told myself we are in big dodo . We lost.

:lol:tried to put his words on the page :lol.

According to the fan base today, fans shouldn't hate on Hallman cause realistically you can't win a national championship every year.

We are one bad coaching hire from being back to the 5th and under range.

LSU is not Bama and does not have the rec.

I didn't play for Curley Hallman, and I think CharlesLSU was more of a mid to late 80s guy. But Charles was probably still privy to good stories from the Hallman days.

When I saw his first press coherence I thought, oh shite. But I was a mega-positiger back then in my younger days. I tried to suppress.

And his first game was ugly, it was either Georgia or A&M but no matter we were pummeled in both games. Folks said Curley wore out the players in pre-season camp and they had nothing left.

Shortly thereafter, the Crazy bout Curley stickers on cars were being replaced by the Curley bout crazy stickers.

With the recruiting advantages we have here one would have to be a borderline idiot not to win at least 8 a year here. But we found one before, we could certainly do it again.

Paging LSUCharles...

Let him tell you the detailed story of the 1985 Liberty Bowl Fiasco.

a) Arnsparger allowed players to drive themselves up to Memphis
b) The morning of pre-game walkthrough, the gates were locked and they had it in the parking lot. Nicky Hazrad jumped on a car and yelled "Merry fricking Christmas!"
c) Obviously, LSU lost to Baylor.

At a coaching clinic, I was sitting in a room with JT Curtis, Rick Rhodes, the Nicholls State Coach at the time, Bill Curry and RC Slocum. We were talking about Proposition 48, which some thought was unfair to African American kids. Curly walks in, scratching his nuts, listens for a second and yells across the room, "RC, we oughtta get that god damn Jesse Jackson involved in this shite!"
Everybody just looked at each other, like wtf...Slocum was sitting next to me, turned and said "That's your boy." It was embarrassing to be an LSU guy that day.

I've heard some stories on that. Unfathomable to me a coach would do that.

Helped me understand why Uncle Bill got raped in all his bowl games. But that Liberty Bowl was a disaster. The game was not as close as the score, we were completely dominated.

I was told this story by someone in the SID office back in the 1990s. A player was quitting the team or transferring. I guess he got tired of Curley's BS. Curley was mad at the guy for quitting and told the player what about commitment?

The player then pointed to his ring finger and raised his hands and said "what about this commitment"

Everyone always thought Dale Hallman was a very nice attractive woman and couldn't figure out why Curley was fooling around. But then again Dale might have been the problem to begin with.

But I do remember some players liked Curley and actually felt bad when he lost his family and job in the same year. It was said though that Curley was a good father to his daughters and really loved them.
