Out of LSU's 12 regular season games, how many opponents will be ranked? How many will be ranked higher than LSU? Does that mean that LSU will be picked as the underdog in those games?

Not necessarily. Lot goes into odds. Home, away, neutral field. Injuries and other variables

Starting the season six are ranked. Will they be ranked when we play them? Who knows. We're the underdog if our opponent is favored to win by the Vegas odds makers.

For what its worth this is about where Bama started from 3 years ago. All we have to do is "WIN"! The polls will take care of themselves.

I think they will too, and I hope they get demolished just like Hawaii did against UGA so all that talk of "those" schools goes away. However, I do give Boise some props for scheduling VTech and OSU but they could've moved to a BCS conference instead of making a lateral move to Mountain West. To me, that was a bitch move since they are always talking about being just as good as everybody else. If they truly believe that, they should have joined the Pac10 or Big 12.

I understand UNC has some pretty good defensive players, but so does LSU. I think that will be the strength of the team this year. The offense will prove just good enough to win alot of ball games. We shall see.
UNC's defense allowed 28 points to NC State in last year's final regular season game. They gave up 4 TD passes and allowed 259 passing yards by NC State's offense and gave up 22 first downs. This same defense returns 9 starters (that's if one of their best can play because of the NCAA investigation). NC State lost 7 games last year.
If we are on in the passing game we could score a lot of points in this game. If our hopefully improved o-line gives JJ some time, I think we win this game by a couple TD's.

no BCS conference wanted Boise. They bring nothing else to the table. Their academics are a joke and they pretty much suck in every other sport

Contrary to popular belief, preseason polls are meaningful
I disagree. IMHO they were left out because the previous 2 seasons they were hyped up and both of those seasons they had a big L at the hands of USCw. So why let them get a 3rd crack at USCw? I think USCw vs OU was the right game.
et ask: When did people start calling the University of Oklahoma UO, Oklahoma University OU?

USC ranked over the Tigers?
I'm not sure if I'd rank USC that high even if Carroll was still coaching there, but with Kiffy-boy now coaching, I don't see how USC makes the top25. As usual, the preseason poll is nothing more than a beauty pageant.

anyone else notice that LSU faces more ranked teams (6) than anyone else?????

It's obvious the pollsters are struggling with ranking the SEC teams.
Based on all the polls I've seen there is a wide divide between Bama/Florida and the rest of the SEC. The final standings WILL NOT end up that way. Polls are always worthless, they put too much emphasis on what a team did last year. We need a playoff system so bad.

Alabama should be #1 because they are the defending National Champion, but, watching them lose 3 games this year is going to be pretty fun.
Why would it be fun to watch them have such a great season, with only three losses? After all, four losses is still a good season at LSU, right?

If that was why Auburn was left out of the NC game in 2004, then that's ridiculous. It was obvious by the end of the regular season that Auburn was a very different team in 2004 to what it was in 2002 or 2003.

Because they were the best available opponent for USC.

Well, obviously in hindsight it wasn't, but even at the time it was highly suspect. Using your logic about Auburn vs. USC, look at what had happened to Oklahoma the year before. Being hyped as the greatest ever, they got spanked in their conference CG and then dominated by LSU in the NCG. It was clear to some at that time, and should have been clear to everyone at that time, that the SEC was much tougher than the Big XII. Also, Auburn not only went undefeated through the SEC, but basically unchallenged except by LSU. They were clearly dominant in every other game that year.
We'll never know what the outcome would have been if Auburn had played USC in that NC game, but after seeing SEC teams go 6-0 in NC games, including 3-0 as the underdogs, can anyone say with a straight face that a dominant and undefeated SEC champion would have had no chance?

that was still the elite matchup. auburn could have started the season number 3 and they still wouldn't have jumped either team.
So what? It still means the preseason poll was the key. What if they had started #1 so they wouldn't have had to jump anybody? They probably would not have been jumped, considering they went undefeated and were dominant in all the games except one, and that one was against the defending national champions.
It's not 100%, but it is usually true that teams that end the season with the same number of losses also end up in the same order in the polls that they started in.

any SEC team goes undefeated with one decent OOC game is going to the national championship game
Maybe, but there is certainly no guarantee unless the SEC team in question is Alabama or Florida. If Boise State, TCU, Ohio State and Texas all go undefeated, a very real possibility, an undefeated LSU (with two good OOC games) would be in significant danger of being left out.
