Mettenberger was self trained I suppose?

Well, he went thru spring practice at UGA, and did very well and many thought he would challenge Aaron Murray for the starting job. He then went to JUCO and played there a year.

So yea, he had some training prior to landing at LSU.

I don't buy this. You play to the strength of the team. That is the running game. LSU made a mistake against Arkansas and went away from what was working

Practice doesn't come close to live game situations. Hostile environments and even at home with 100,000 plus people watching is infinite times more pressure on a QB. Besides, with our offense how much practice time do you think goes to throwing the ball compared to running it.

Go get a five-star, "non-mobile" QB.

What does his mobility have to do with the way he passes?

He never takes off running too early so his mobility is irrelevant to his struggles.

The problem isn't Harris. The problem isn't Jennings. You can't replace a poorly trained dog with another poorly trained dog and expect a better outcome.

Not sure why people don't get this.

I saw a post or 2 last night saying if we switched QBs, we'd be crushing A&M...I though those were comical, and just wayyyyyy off the mark.

The players can get enough reps, its called practice.
You know damn well the only reps that count are ones we see.

Remember ... Etling put up those numbers on absolute dog-shite Purdue teams.

It's no secret we have trouble developing quarterbacks. I don't know why we do but I can guarantee you it would make a big difference if we could fix it.

His accuracy was a much bigger problem than his reads last night.

CC offense is bombs over Baghdad period. Seams, 9 routes and long comebacks, 90 plus percent of the time. Zack looked like arse his first year as a full time starter. It is very hard to be accurate and efficient when the bulk of ur throws are low percentage period. Also Zack had two pro bowlers catching his passes as well. The long to short philosophy needs to change. The offense is meant for the pros who usually have a developed qb.

Fwiw, he is definitely an above average talent, himself in the SEC.

I disagree, I don't think he's been developed properly. But even if I were to concede that point to you, it's still on Miles for his inability to develop a QB. We've had, what, an 8 year run where we've only had 1 really good season from our QB position?

Word from 247 is that Etling arm is weaker than Jennings and his accuracy is on par with everyone else's. He won't see he field at LSU

You can tell by watching his high school highlights that his arm is weak

Honest question, as I'm not watching any Purdue football nowadays.

Was he bad because Purdue's offense is dogshit or was Purdue's offense dogshit because he was so bad?

For all the open 25 yarders he had last night, the 10-15 yard pass was there every time.

Not a single intermediate pass.

Either he can't throw it, or no one will call it.
