Boy this thread got off the rails quick
I think we can ALL agree that Avery is a true Tiger and will be a great representative of the #18.

Has a chance. But currently has a career FG% of 81% currently.
Look...id hope most people understand the premise simply being a silly way to give Avery props for a VERY niche skill set.

This is MY son. He earned it. I’m beyond proud of him. If some don’t like it I don’t care! #32 to #18.

Unfortunately looks like it will be handed to two players per year now. Damone Clark still has it for the defense.

if you don't understand value of putting a kickoff into the end zone every time means for the game of football then I can't help you.
Also this is a leadership award and everything I have read about this young man tells me that he has leadership qualities in spades.

You must have short-term memory. Do you even remember the Miles' years when 3 out of 4 KO's went sailing out of bounds setting up teams at the 35 yd line ? READ this article from 2 weeks ago (8/21/21)
'Truly an honor': Auburn High alum Avery Atkins given Male Leadership Award at LSU
Auburn High alum Avery Atkins has excelled during his football career at LSU, which included being a kickoff specialist for the Tigers’ national title team in 2019.
That success also goes beyond what he’s done on the field, and it led to a big honor on Sunday. Atkins was given the Male Leadership Award as part of the Tiger Athletic Foundation’s Mikey’s Award ceremony, an annual event in which winners are voted on by LSU student-athletes.
“Truly an honor,” Atkins wrote on social media after the award was announced. Atkins enters his senior season at LSU after handling kickoff duties for the Tigers for the third straight season in 2020. He once again was one of the nation’s leaders in kickoff percentage thanks to hitting touchbacks on 46 of his 60 kickoffs last fall.
Atkins was a true weapon for LSU as part of a 2019 season that neither he nor the Tigers will ever forget. He had 110 touchbacks on an FBS-leading 131 kickoffs — a near-84 percent touchback percentage. In Atkins LSU career, he has 191 KO's, and only 2 have gone OOB.

The tradition that started out as a joke has circled back to being a complete joke now. This is not a knock on Atkins. Whatever luster was left was lost when Orgeron and Ponamsky thought the team needed two players wearing the number. If you want captains, just give them patches.
Ole Miss does it the best with the Chucky Mullins “38”. It has meaning and choose one player that embodies his spirit.

Giving it to two players was weak.
Bestowing numbers on any player is weak.

I hope we run some ST fakes with him this season. Maybe a fake FG with him as holder or a fake punt.
People forget he was an All-State safety [7A] in high school. He can bring the hat!
