He’s got to be less than .174 even during scrimmages.

In the 10 scrimmages that Scuba kept stats for Hughes is batting .235 this fall.

Considering some of the pitching we seem to have, .235 isn’t bad right? Especially in a scrimmage.

What’s the team average for fall in the scrimmages
If anyone has it?

Scubas stats aren't official. I don't think LSU has put out many official stats for the fall either. Scuba has also missed a few scrimmages because they started earlier than expected.

I can tell you Mathis has been hitting really well. Cade Doughty, Willis, Dugas, Bianco, Beloso have all been hitting pretty well. I'm missing some too.

Still. You have to have a solid glove at SS. .235 ain’t horrible. Don’t think we should give up on him just yet unless we have someone that can do .300 with close to same fielding %. ?????

It all depends, in my opinion.

If 7-8 other people are hitting really well, and we are scoring runs, and Hughes is by far our best defensive option, then if he hits .150 it won't cripple the team.

If we have a struggling line up, it's hard to keep that same .150 in it though.

Arnold hasn't played much in the fall, but it seems he would be the only other option at SS. And we haven't seen enough of him to know much.

Good point. You can mask .135 in the lineup potentially. It’s interesting that we don’t have any other good to premium SS given the level of recruiting that can happen at LSU. Maybe he will surge. If he hits .250 (or better) we would be great. Maybe it’s mental...

We had our guy in Cairo, and he threw a curve ball and signed unexpectedly. The staff had to scramble and luckily got Arnold, because he was released when his coach got fired (maybe Oregon). Cairo would probably almost certainly be starting for us this year.

It's probably just that he isn't a good hitter, to be honest.

If his replacement is .280....with 250 at bats that is about 25 hits more if he goes .174 again.

The most errors by any shortstop in the league was last year with 23. At a .961 clip , he would have about 11 next year. 12 errors is not worth giving up 25 addtl hits in my opinion.

If Arnold hits .280, and fields anywhere near Hughes, he will be the starting SS without a doubt.

For the record, I missed 5 batters in scrimmage #4 due to an early start. I've scored and posted all the others. My stats will differ from LSU's because I score more to favor pitcher's stats than fielder's (more errors, less hits). I also count three outs as an inning regardless of when CPM calls an end to an inning.

Do you keep a running tab of all the stats you have?

I have all AB's in a notebook I carry to the scrimmages. After the fall scrimmages are over, I total the stats from them and post them here.

Where’s the stats for SS manager? Is this someone with eligibility?

Student managers don't bat during scrimmages.

People need to stop bashing Hughes. He is above average in the field and a .200 to .230 hitter. He will either start due to his glove or be an important utility player.

This is hilarious that anyone would ever put this group in the SAME category as a professional baseball player that has PROVEN himself to be the stud he is! There is not one player at Bregman's caliber, not saying that they can not get there but def no where near that at this point in their baseball career!
