Word is that Simmons issued request to be referred to by Melbourne as opposed to LSU for NBA games and events

I was with you until this. His parents have money...and Simmons is actually fairly intelligent. He won't run out of money.

Perhaps, but that dude was way too mentally soft to play in the league last year.
We'll see, if he turns out to be an All Star in the NBA, we'll know with certainty that it had nothing to do with him being mentally soft.

Ben had other options, but he chose the best one for his marketing purposes. Maybe LSU should send him a bill for their marketing services ? haha... I don't necessarily agree with the NBA rule, but Ben was not forced to go to college. He could have went to the D League, overseas, prep school for a year or even just sat out.. but he chose college because it was best for him marketing wise.... that being said, he interacted with the fans and kids after every game, if you waited about 30min by the locker room.. he was extremely accomodating and nice to the kids, my sons got pics and autos

Well YOU chose to leave...to make a shite load of money...I'm tired of this bitching by some collegiate athletes.
Also, way to let everyone know you have a shitty attitude you moron.

He's from Australia. Pretty sure he could have gone straight to the NBA....

Seriously, frick that guy. JJ should have booted him. It was pretty obvious he was not putting any effort and the team was going nowhere.
I always thought they were more of a team when BS was not on the court.
Here's to you Ben Simmons:
I have fonder memories of Russel Grant and Steffond "Baby Magic" Johnson.

I don't have a problem with athletic scholarships. I just think college basketball is starting to look more and more like a showcase for 1 and done basketball players. When you only have to attend classes for a semester, and the season basically gets underway the following semester, it's impossible with a straight face to call these 1 and done guys student athletes. Simmons hits the nail on the head but maybe did so unwittingly. If the NBA wants a college farm league, they should adopt similar rules to football and baseball with respect to when you become draft eligible. Otherwise, basketball should be relegated to club sport status.

Nope.. he could not international players must
- Permanently reside outside of the U.S. for at least three years before the draft while playing basketball outside of the U.S.
-Have never enrolled in a U.S. college or university.
-Did not complete high school in the U.S.
But he did not HAVE to go to college, but it was best for HIM marketing wise. He could have went overseas, NBA D League, prep school or just sat out.. but none of them would have been beneficial from a marketing standpoint.

Where did all the money, cars and bling offers come from?
Posted on 11/2/16 at 9:42 am to BWA2015
basketball needs something like what baseball has. If you're a projected lottery pick you can go pro straight from high school but if you dont you're locked in for 3 years.

1. Could this get us in trouble?
No because he's full of shite. BR isn't exactly crawling with Rolls Royces in the first place, much less LSU basketball superfans with enough money to give out Rolls Royces for free.

I don't think Ben gave LSU his best effort, but LSU didn't give him their best effort either.
Speaking of efforts, how much effort did Joe put out in his hiring of Jones? His best was a Sun Belt coach with a mediocre record? Being a Louisiana boy has sure paid off in basketball.
I shutter to think what his best effort will be in football. Maybe a position coach who failed so badly is his last head coach job that he hasn't been hired in ten years for the countless of openings that have become available in college football.

Why is it every year we hear this shite from college athletes? Do they not understand what they are signing up for? Have they not heard from those before them what it is they will go through?
They get a free ride that is gifted to them on lower standards academically with all kinds of loop holes to allow them in. The tough life of having to put forth effort for something in return. So much entitlement, it is becoming a part of what is ruining sports for me as I get older.

Because they are still kids. When I was that age I thought the system was out to get me and frick everything. Everyone is an idiot, I'm a genius
Now I know I'm just as dumb as everyone else but this isn't the first kid to feel this way and it won't stop. I can't imagine the dumb shite I would have said if I had that platform at that age.

You're not going to be in the NBA forever kid, you need to plan for a career pst NBA.
This is absolutely true. Simmons probably believes he will have a career like Magic, Jordan, O'Neal, LeBron, etc., even before playing in a single NBA game, and forgets about so many ex NBA players who are struggling to manage their lives after NBA.

I hope he never shows his face around LSU again and if he does, someone punches it. Kid is the worst.
